Romance Scam: 23-Year-Old Man Tricks US Citizen Into Visiting Nigeria …Victim Says ‘Nigerians Are Hospitable’

23- year- old Awoleye Joshua Oluwatofunmi has been arrested and taken into custody by the police in Kwara state.

He has been accused of making a citizen of the United States of America, Vonapolouis Moss of 2962, W 64th Court, Merrillville, Indiana 46410 part with her money in romance scam.

Awoleye Joshua Oluwatofunmi, who is an Internet fraudster ‘Yahoo Boy’,   had reportedly presented himself to the victim on TikTok, a social media platform, as an American and also called himself Howard Adams.

 After allegedly making her send 1,000 dollars to him, Joshua also tricked Vonapolouis into leaving US for Nigeria on January 9, 2023. He had apparently promised to marry her..

After arriving in Lagos  where she spent the night,  the victim left Lagos for Ilorin the following  day and  she was received by the suspect, who took her to a hotel and also deceitfully made her part with an unspecified amount before getting  rescued by the police.

 Kwara state police Commissioner, Mr. Paul Odama, who   disclosed this during the press conference he presided over at the state police headquarters, Ilorin on Friday which was attended by journalists including Team@orientactualmags.com , added that Joshua was arrested at a hotel in the Flower Garden area of the state capital.

‘The necessary authorities have been contacted for an appropriate action while the rescued victim has been moved to a secure place by the State Police Command pending her return trip to the USA.

The command will continue to discharge its duties with a full sense of responsibility and be willing at all times to respect the rights of every citizen’ he said.

Responding to questions from journalists, Vonapolouis said she would like to return to the United States ‘I just want to go back home, for me it is just a lesson learned’ she said.

When asked if she would want Joshua punished or she simply wanted all she had spent on him refunded?  Vonapolouis said she would not want anything bad to happen to him.

 ‘ I have a big heart; love helping people I would not want anything bad to happen to him’ she submitted.

Vonapolouis also noted that visiting Nigeria  had in some ways been a good experience.

 ‘I see Nigeria as a beautiful place, it was beautiful seeing so many black people in one place, just beautiful, the hospitality of the people is amazing I will love to come back with my family’ she said.

  The police commissioner, who disclosed that Alhaji Tunde Buhari  and Mallam Ridman Meco , who were  kidnapped in  Oluwalose community , Okolowo, Ilorin  on 10/1/2023, had since regained their freedom, added that the police will go after  a social media user , who had misled people by claiming that it was a popular Islamic preacher;  Buhari omo Musa that was abducted and had urged members of the public to help raise thirty million naira ransom for his release- Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
