In what stood as signs of the rising tensions between opposing political parties in the country ahead of the 2023 General Election , the convoy of the PDP presidential candidate , Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, was reportedly attacked in Maiduguri on Wednesday. High casualties have been reported as Atiku hits campaign trail in the Borno state capital.
In a viral video , gunshots were heard while people were seen scampering for safety, scores of people were reportedly injured.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that vandalized vehicles were also seen at the Ramat Square , Maiduguiri.
Though only sketchy information was still available in respect of the incident as at the time of publishing this report, Spokesman for the Atiku Campaign organization, former Senator Dino Malaye, has accused the ruling APC of sponsoring the hoodlums , a development that will definitely heighten political tensions.
APC Vice Presidential candidate , Alhaji Kashim Shettima , is an indigene of Borno state. He had not only served as governor of the state for eight straight years but was also a member of the Nigerian senate before being chosen as Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s running mate.
Melaye claimed that more than 70 people had since been taken to different hospitals.
‘They wanted to prevent us from holding the campaign rally, as we speak, 74 people were injured and hospitalized. Several vehicles were vandalized by the APC thugs’ he said.
‘They deployed their thugs to attack our convoy, pelt us with stones, and use sticks, machetes to attack us while leaving the Shehu’s Palace to come to the Ramat Square, all in an attempt to stop our campaign rally’ the former senator added- Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
