‘Security Vote’ Ceases To Be In Operation In Our State Since 2022-Gov Adeleke

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State asserted at the weekend that ‘security vote’ has ceased to be in operation since his emergence as Chief Executive of the State of the Living Spring in November 2022.

While noting that the security agencies have been getting necessary supports , there is however no fund dedicated to security matters and called ‘security vote’.

Funds committed to security are according to him subjected to the public finance law and regulations.

Adeleke in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed on Friday, listed his administration’s security expenditures to include; operational support for security agencies operating in the state, funding of operations to quell communal crises; support for communal peace activities and funding of the state security outfit, Amotekun among others.

Such expenditures, he noted, are made to undergo statutory approval process which involves raising of memos and compliance with government payment process.

‘I am proud to declare that the Osun state government under my leadership does not operate a slush fund that our media friends call security vote. Our security needs are met through the approval process. I face resistance over the policy but I have stuck to it even at a great cost.

My motivation for insisting on the policy was the situation I met on the ground in November 2022. I believe Osun needs every kobo to meet her numerous developmental challenges. Our earnings from FAAC allocations and internally generated revenues are channeled to key sectoral projects from infrastructure to agriculture to health among others.

We also target payment of emoluments to workers, pensions and outstanding salary debt. We maintain a delicate balance on expenditure across human and infra sectors and within less than three years, we have good records widely verified by local and national stakeholders’ he said.

The governor added that the decision taken by his administration to create special projects account has helped to ensure funding of ongoing projects, submitting  that he remains focused and committed to completing  human and capital projects on schedule while expressing hope that matters that have to do with local government allocations would be resolved soon-Team@orientactualmags.com
