Senate Committee Handles Senator Natasha’s Petition ‘With Dispatch’, Gives ‘Dead On Arrival’ Verdict

The Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions on Wednesday treated the petition submitted by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against the Senate President, Barrister Godswill Akpabio ‘with dispatch’.
The senator, who represents Kogi Central, had earlier in the day made the petition available and it borders on alleged sexual harassment .

Senator Neda Imasuen gave the committee’s verdict of ‘dead on arrival’ during its sitting on Wednesday.
Imasuen , who is the Chairman of the Committee, submitted that the petition was ‘dead on arrival’ because it breached Order 40 of the Senate Standing Order.
Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, he noted, signed the petition herself instead of having it endorsed by a colleague senator which had therefore rendered it procedurally invalid.
The Lounge:
‘The petition that she (Natasha) presented today is actually dead on arrival; it runs contrary to Order 40, Subsection 4, which states that no senator may present to the Senate a petition signed by him or her. Since that petition was signed by her, it will not be entertained by this committee’ he said.
Recall that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan had alleged that she is being victimized by the Senate President because she had refused to join him in participating in the game that requires no referee.
The drama had begun when Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics and Disciplinary following altercations involving her and the Senate President, Barrister Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements during a plenary session a few days ago,
The Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions was given two weeks to submit its report.
