Over one hundred pregnant women, who are residents of Ilorin West Local Government , Kwara state, got free ‘mama kits’ and essential commodities during the inauguration of a ‘Newborn care Corner’ at the Ogidi Banni Primary Health Care Centre , Ilorin on Monday.
The project was facilitated by Hajia Memunat Oloriegbe through the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria, PCN. It was part of the PCN’s 2022 Capital Projects in the Kwara Central Senatorial District.
Mrs Maimunat Oloriegbe is also the founder of the Matta Girls Foundation.

The project which was the third in a series was designed interalia to assist pregnant women to have access to quality and affordable health care services and address maternal and child mortality .
It had been previously launched at Alanamu Basic Health Centre and the Okelele Health Centre, Ilorin.
The facilitator of the Project, Hajia Memunat Oloriegbe, who is the wife of Senator Yahaya Ibrahim Oloriegbe , noted that having the ‘newborn care corner’ at the Ogidi Banni Primary Health Care Centre will enhance the effective delivery of new babies and provide qualitative Health care Service delivery in the community.
Senator Yahaya Oloriegbe currently represents Kwara Central in the senate.
Hajia Oloriegbe, who appreciated her husband, Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe for helping her to successfully facilitate the project, urged all the beneficiaries to use the mama kits for the intended purpose while enjoining them to prioritize antenatal care in order to prevent complications.
‘One of the major causes of maternal and child mortality is poor access to health facilities that provide quality and affordable healthcare services.
Also many babies die during delivery or during their neonatal period from preventable causes if the necessary equipment had been made available to our health workers.
The farther we move away from the cities, the less access mothers have to facilities that can guarantee quality healthcare.
These observations and my own personal experience made me establish this and other New born care Corners to easy the delivery of effective and quality health care services to pregnant women and the newborns.
We are also providing Mama kits for our pregnant women to reduce the hardships they face in providing essential and necessary items when they are ready to deliver their babies.
Each pack of the Mama kits contains more than 11 essential items.
The provision of these items would also encourage women to visit hospital for antenatal care thereby reducing maternal mortality and Newborn morbidity.
Every newborn deserves to be given a good start and best chance for survival with good health.
I believe with the equipment, the delivery items and the hard-working health personnel we have in this facility, we will make significant and lasting difference in the lives of the people in our community’ she said.
Mrs. Maimunat Oloriegbe later donated neonatal equipment to the hospital including radiant warmer, suction machines, oxygen, cylinder baby cot, weighing scale, thermometer amongst others.
Apart from helping to make neonatal care available for pregnant women who deliver before the ‘due date’ at the health facility, a generator was also donated to the hospital while provision was equally made for generation of electricity through solar power.
Also in the spirit of the International Day of Charity aimed at increasing and enhancing social responsibility across the world and increasing our support for charitable causes, a mother of triplets , Mrs. Ramota Mukaila got foodstuffs and financial support while the senator’s wife had also promised to continue to support the family.
In an interview with Team@orientactualmags.com Mrs Ramata said everything came as a total surprise to her.
While noting that she is not a member of any political party, Ramata said she had only visited Oloriegbe Family house on Saturday and was lucky to meet with the senator’s wife ,who had since begun to touch her life positively-Team@orientactualmags.com
