2025 Anambra State Guber Race
Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s death will definitely reshape the 2025 Anambra state gubernatorial race and it may actually alter the course of events.
The late Senator ,who was the Labour Party guber candidate In the 2014 Anambra state governorship election, had before his death relaunched his governorship bid.
There are three senatorial districts in Anambra state; Anambra South, Anambra North and Anambra Central.
Anambra South and Anambra Central have somewhat dominated the scene with respect to ‘governorship position’ since 1992 until Mr. Peter Obi ensured that Anambra North produced his successor , Willie Obiano in 2014.
Vigiana Etiaba ,a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, who served as acting governor from November 3,2006, to February 9, 2007, is also from Anambra North senatorial district.
Obiano spent eight years in office and handed over to Professor Charles Soludo on March 17, 2022.
Anambra South has produced governors that include Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Andy Ubah, and Chinwooke Mbadiniju while Anambra Central has produced Dr Chris Ngige and Mr. Peter Obi.
Though Governor Charles Soludo and late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah are both from Anambra South, they had gotten considered as leading aspirants ahead of the 2025 guber election.
While it was an unspoken agreement that Anambra South should be allowed to retain ‘governorship position’ next year, the people of Nnewi North had however argued forcefully that the local government should be given the privilege of having one of the indigenes as the number one citizen in the state.
Being an indigene of Nnewi North local government , late Senator Ifenyi Uba had considered himself an excellent candidate for the ‘governorship position’ cognizant that he does not belong to the same party with the governor.
Aguata local government , Anambra South has produced Ezeife, Andy Uba and Soludo while Ihiala has produced Mbadiniju and former Vice President Alex Ekwueme.
Nnewi North local government in the same Anambra South has never enjoyed the privilege of producing the state governor.
The current governor, Professor Charles Soludo , is a member of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and Ubah had defected from YPP to APC last year apparently to stand him in good stead in the upcoming guber election.
With the shocking death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, the people of Nnewi North local government, who had been ‘all eyes’ as the late senator strategized ahead of the guber election, must have been greatly devastated by the news of his passing.
The senator’s death will definitely reshape the 2025 Anambra state guber race and people of the state will anticipate and look forward to those who will eventually emerge as guber candidates of the three major political parties in the state; APGA, PDP and APC-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
