‘The amount of salary I receive per month is less than N1m, if there are cuts, it comes back to about six hundred thousand naira and a little something as salary’ Kawu submitted while noting that there are usually a few deductions by the RMFAC.
‘Given the increase effected, in the Senate, each senator gets N21 million every month as running cost’ Senator Sumaila added.
Recall that the national Assembly has received a lot of public attention since questions were raised about the take-home pay of the federal lawmakers.
The National Assembly comprises 109 senators and 360 members of the House of Representatives.
Former president Olusegun Obasanjo had also made comments about the salary and allowances of the federal lawmakers last week submitting that it is wrong and absurd that they are allowed to determine their salary and allowances .
‘You are not supposed to fix your salary or allowances; it is supposed to be done by the Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Responsibility Commission.
With all due respect, you know it’s not right; it is not right for me to be the one to determine what I pay myself; it is immoral, and you are doing it; the Senate is doing it’ Obasanjo had submitted.
Spokesperson for the House of Representatives, Rep Rotimi Akin, had however clarified that the monthly salary of each of the members of the House of Representatives is N600,000 and not N900,000 as being speculated.
Chairman of RMAFC, Muhammed Shehu, had also clarified and asserted that each senator earns N1,063,860 monthly salary and allowance.
