Setback Rules: Owners Of Demolished Shops Receive Cash Grants In Ilorin

Kwara state Government has taken steps to ease things for owners of shops that were demolished sequel to the enforcement of the road setback rules by the state government.

Ag. General Manager of Kwara state Social Investment Programmes (KWASSIP), Dr Abdulwasiu Olayinka Tejidini, in a statement he issued in Ilorin on Friday which was made available to Team@orientactualmags.com noted that the state government took the altruistic step to curb the loss of jobs and the collapse of businesses in the state.

The state government has presented cash grants to a total number of 61 people who had their shops demolished recently.

The event was attended by Executive Chairman of the Kwara state Geographic Information Service, ESV Abdulkareem Babatunde Suleiman; Director of Physical Planning, TPL Abdulhakeem Abdulsalam; Executive Secretary of KWASSIP, Mrs Roseline Ajanaku, and Governor AbdulRazaq’s Senior Special Assistant on Communications, Mr  Ibraheem Abdullateef.

Giving his speech, Dr AbdulWasiu Tejidini submitted that  those who have received  the cash grants were chosen after a careful assessment of their losses which also determined the amount of money they got respectively.

‘Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in his kindheartedness approved the financial assistance package for the affected business owners to grant them relief and help raise their businesses after the incident.

Following a careful investigation and assessment, ten (10) persons were awarded the sum of N801,550; two (2) persons to receive N572,000; and forty-nine (49)  others would  get N400,000 each. The list comprises those whose shops were affected at Post Office, Tanke, and Ahmadu Bello Way respectively’ he said.

Also speaking, Executive Secretary of Kwara state Geographic Information Service, ESV Abdulkareem Suleiman described the intervention as deeply selfless cognizant that carrying out the exercise does not make the government legally liable to grant compensation.

‘The enforcement of the setback rules is legal. The document in custody of the affected people is a Certificate of Temporary Occupation (CTO) which can be revoked with a notice of vacation within 7 days. We had acted according to the law. Kwara state Government is not liable to offer any compensation. I believe that everyone now understands clearly. What is being done today is out of magnanimity of the governor and this is very commendable’  ESV Suleiman said.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Mary Ogbona expressed appreciation for the financial assistance package, saying ‘it was not expected’.

‘I am very happy for this. We didn’t expect it. We thank Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his act of magnanimity. This money will help us settle down back to business quicker and better. May God bless him’ she added–Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us? Do you want us to cover your event or programme?
