Seun Kuti Back In Custody Following Magistrate’s Absence

There are signs that popular musician, Seun Kuti , may not regain his freedom anytime soon.
Seun had been arraigned for assaulting a police officer, an offense contrary to Section 356 of the Criminal Code Act.
It will be recalled that he had in a viral video hit and slapped a police officer many times on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, and had the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba directing the Lagos state police command to ensure that he gets arrested without delay. Seun had turned himself in to the police two days later.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Seun is back in custody as Magistrate Adeola Olatubosun of the Chief Magistrates’ Court , Yaba, Lagos, who is hearing the case, was not present in court on Tuesday.
It was gathered that she has gone to attend a training programme.
Though Seun Kuti was brought to the magistrates’ court on Tuesday, he was however immediately taken back to the police station at Panti following Adeola’s absence.
It would be recalled that the police had sought for an order to further keep him in custody for 21 days pending the conclusion of its investigation while the court had told the law enforcement agency to detain Kuti for additional 48 hours and release him on bail.
Last Thursday, the magistrate extended the musician’s remand for additional four days to allow the police to continue with its investigation.
She also ordered that his file be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) and had subsequently adjourned the trial until May 22-Team@orientactualmags.com
