Shadow Cabinet: Abia PDP May Face Treason Charges-Gov Alex Otti
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has condemned the decision taken by the state PDP leaders to form a shadow cabinet submitting that it is a step in the wrong direction.
He has also noted that they may face treason charges.
Recall that the state PDP had formed a shadow cabinet and also appointed a Speaker for the state house of assembly claiming that this was done to hold the Otti administration accountable.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the governor, who reacted to this development during the meeting he held with labour leaders in the state on Tuesday, also accused the PDP of being ignorant of Nigeria’s political structure.
‘There’s nothing like a shadow government in a presidential democracy. The problem people have is ignorance, and they refuse to be educated. Shadow governments only exist in parliamentary democracies.
What they have set up is, in essence, a government in exile, and since it is not recognised by law, it is treasonable’ Otti said.
The governor also disclosed that he had since instructed the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna, to address the matter decisively within the framework of the law.
‘We are a serious-minded government, guided by the law. If a faction of the PDP sets up a government in exile, we will treat them as such. Let the law take its course. People must understand that politics is not synonymous with foolishness.
They call themselves ‘shadow’ because they want us to chase shadows. But we will not fall into their trap. Our focus is on the mandate given to us by the Abia people’ he said.
