Sheikh Bashir Soliu Laid To Rest In Ilorin
Sheikh Bashir Solihu has been laid to rest in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The late Islamic cleric, who died on Monday at the age of 75, was the 12th Chief Imam of Ilorin.
Imam Imale of Ilorin, Sheikh Abdulahi Abdulhameed presided over the janazah prayer held for him at the forecourt of the palace of the Emir of Ilorin on Tuesday, January 20, 2026,
Prominent indigenes of Ilorin that attended the Janazah prayer include former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
Kwara State government officials also attended the janazah prayer with Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who had earlier issued a statement to mourn the Islamic cleric’s passing on Monday, once again, extolling the virtues of Imam Bashir Soliu and calling him an eminent global scholar of repute and a man of impeccable character.
‘Our late father, the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Dr. Muhammad Bashir, was an eminent global scholar of repute. He was a man of impeccable character of proven integrity; a role model to Muslims. The entire Muslim ummah will definitely miss him greatly.
Chief Imam was very generous and passionate about peaceful coexistence between Muslims and non-Muslims, between indigenes of the Emirates and the state and those who have come to stay with us.
He inspired a lot of the younger generation into Islamic scholarship, education, peaceful community existence, ensuring that we all live together as brothers and sisters without rancour. The entire people of Ilorin will miss him greatly’ the governor submitted through his Senior Adviser and Counselor, Alhaji Sa’adu Salau, who represented him at the Janazah prayer.
