SMEDAN Top Official Urges SMEs To ‘Stay The Course’, Talks About Survival Strategies At Seminar In Offa

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) has advised prospective small business owners in the country  to ensure proper planning in order to achieve their business goals while urging existing SMEs to stay the course .

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that SMEDAN Administrative Officer in Kwara state,  Mrs. Adava Ometre, said this in  the keynote speech she gave  during the  seminar organized by the correspondents’ chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara state council in Offa, on Wednesday.

Recall that the Correspondents’ Chapel had on Monday announced ‘full schedule’ for its 2024 Press Week.

The grand finale  holds today  at the Diamond Event Centre, Yidi Road Ilorin.

A lecturer at the University of Ilorin, Professor Lukman Adeshina Azeez and Senator Umar Suleiman Sadiq of Kwara North will give keynote speeches at the event and their keynote topics are   ‘Accountability and Transparency: How Journalism Can Foster Good Governance’ and ‘democracy good governance and Role of Citizens’ respectively.

Mrs. Adava also submitted on Wednesday that SMEs in Nigeria have  contributed 46.31% to the nation’s GDP and over 6 % to the country’s export noting  that these figures implied that the SMEs are doing well despite the current economic challenges.

‘SMEs in Nigeria should be resilient, they shouldn’t give up, they should not close down because of the economic hardship they are currently going through , they will overcome it’  she said .

The SMEDAN official urged existing businesses to leverage various interventions put in place by the federal government to grow their business by ensuring good packaging and branding of their products  and services.

‘If you want to succeed in any business today, your business  must be well planned ahead. There are businesses that existed for 5 years but still closed down  because they were not well planned’  she said

Mrs Adava also  advised practicing journalists in the country to explore the opportunities in their profession to also own personal business.

‘As journalists, one of the ways you can own your business  is to make your online presence very strong .As journalists, it is important you maximize online platform. You have to be creative with what we do, you can create a niche’ the SMEDAN  official added.

She also  advised journalists to consider developing their personal brand, sponsored content, and offer paid services expertise in areas like media training, writing  or social media strategy through paid consultations or workshop-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
