SSB Tax: Customs Area Controller A.G Bello Makes Inspection Visit To Factories In Ilorin, Oro

The Controller, Nigeria Customs Service, Kwara Area Command,  Compt. A.G Bello,  has made an inspection visit to excise factories in Ilorin, Kwara state capital.   He had done this to create an avenue for ‘in-process inspection’   to ensure that things were done in compliant with the Customs extant laws.

It will be recalled that the Federal Government  had earlier this year, approved the implementation of the 2022 fiscal policy measures featuring supplementary protection measures (SPM) for the implementation of the ECOWAS Common External Tariff (CET) 2022-2026 and excise duties of N10 per liter on Non-Alcoholic beverages, cigarettes and Tobacco products effective from 1st April, 2022.

A grace period of ninety (90) days was  also later granted to enable the excise factories producing non -alcoholic and beverages to comply  with the new directives which had elapsed on 30th of June, 2022 while the new price regime was effective from 1st July, 2022.

Chado Zakari, who is the Public Relations Officer for the Nigeria Customs Service, Kwara Area Command, noted in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com  on Wednesday that the Customs Area Controller was at the International Tobacco Company (ITC) which is the biggest among the producers of Cigarettes and Spirits in Kwara state.

Others factories he  visited include Peace Standard Pharmaceutical Industries, Seven UP Bottling Company, Remitola International Multi Biz, Orion Agro Industries Ltd, Donswep Industries Ltd, Njoku Global Ventures Idofian, Ascodin Nigeria Enterprises in Oro, Irepodun local government  and  Neolman Food and Beverages Nigeria Ltd.

‘The familiarization tour was aimed at bringing all the excise factories under control and to equally block all the leakages.

During the visit, the CAC said without mincing word that the Command will on his watch continue to take deliberate steps to work with excise factories and other critical stakeholders to reposition the Command. The CAC averred that he will not relent on efforts to ensure total commitment when it comes to  prompt payment of excise duties.

He also engaged in lively discussions with management teams of all the factories, he first met with the Management and staff of ITC, and later left for other excise factories and promised to collaborate with all compliant stakeholders for efficiency and effectiveness. He demanded for transparency and openness noting that doing otherwise will not be tolerated.

He further warned against non-compliance in respect of their excise duty and urged them to be compliant at all times as this will guarantee them the full benefits of trade facilitation.

The Controller read the riot act to all excise factories that the service is saddled with responsibilities of suppression of smuggling, trade facilitation and revenue generation and any act of cutting corners or distortion to meet the set target will be severely sanctioned’ he said.

.Chado added that the factory  managers promised total compliance with the new regulations announced by the   Federal Government and acknowledged that they had enjoyed good and  mutually  beneficial relationship with the Command all through the years and will do everything within their capacity to  give the new Customs Area Controller the needed necessary supports to succeed- Team@orientactualmags.com
