Stakeholders Gather To Brainstorm On Securing Kwara South’s Future In Abuja…What Gov AbdulRazaq Told Them

The Kwara South Development Initiative (KSDI) organized a one-day summit in Abuja on Tuesday , December 3, 2024, which had stakeholders in the Kwara South Senatorial  district converging on Kapital Club, Abuja to brainstorm and strategize on how to ensure socio-economic development of Kwara South and build a secure future for the coming generation.

The Abuja Summit which was a follow-up to the earlier conferences held on October 29, 2022 ,and May 13, 2023, at Thomas Adewumi University Oko, Kwara State, brought together notable stakeholders in Kwara South.

A communiqué issued at the end of the Abuja summit which was jointly signed by Engr. Dr JBO Adewumi, Chairman, Kwara South Development Initiative (KSDI) and Prof. Olusegun Elegbede and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com noted that the welcome address was delivered by the Convener, Engr. Dr. Johnson B.O  Adewumi while there were goodwill messages from prominent Kwarans including Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq ,who had a virtual attendance.

 The governor declared his total support for the initiative and emphasized the need for Kwara State to move from a ‘consumption state’ to a ‘productive state’  while urging unity among the leaders of the senatorial district.

The state APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi and the Deputy Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon Ojo Oyebode Olayiwola also delivered goodwill messages.

The Abuja Summit reviewed the conclusions and recommendations made during the first and second Conferences held on October 29, 2022 ,and May 13, 2023, respectively.

The Honourable Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju and the  Honourable. Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Mary Arinde delivered short remarks focusing on the scorecards of the Executive Governor with emphasis on the Kwara South.

 The governor’s  Special Adviser (Political), Alh. Femi Whyte also gave an overview of the political performances in Kwara South while the newly elected local government chairmen ,who attended the event, took turns to present their scorecards.

The forum thanked the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mal. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, (CON) for his sterling performance in Kwara South especially infrastructural development. The governor was specially commended for the infrastructural development of Kwara State University (Osi Campus) that has been completed.

The Kwara South stakeholders also thanked the Executive Governor for the impressive road construction projects in Kwara South including Omu-Aran-Oko-Oro Ago, Oro-Esie-Agbonda-Arandun (transversing 4 wards in Irepodun LGA), Others include Ajase-Okeya-Igbaja, Esie museum road, Okerimi Oro Junction- NITEL, Oro road and the Obbo Aiyegunle road that had been abandoned for over 50 years. The Abuja Summit took note of several other projects by the state government in other sectors that are ongoing in Kwara south. In particular, the Abuja summit took note of the improved security situation across the Kwara South due to the combined efforts of the State and the local governments in Kwara South.

 The forum commends the Executive Governor and the various Local Government Chairmen who gave their scorecards during the summit.

The Summit noted with satisfaction that KSDI has established functional cooperative societies in Irepodun, Ekiti and Ifelodun local government areas. The summit encouraged every Local Government to set up Co-operative societies at the ward level as a veritable tool for empowerment of our people. The summit further resolved to pursue the actualization of the following recommendations:

To attract SMEs to the district in order to ensure full employment for our teeming youth population.

To encourage our elected leaders and other stakeholders to use their positions to attract viable investments and viable Federal Government Projects to our district.

To pursue equity in the appropriation of the state resources , elective  positions and appointments in Kwara state was affirmed.

The forum commended the Executive Governor for the appointment of people of Kwara South origin to various political positions of influence in Kwara State and pleaded for more.

The forum urged our elected leaders to use their vantage positions to promote the development of our recognized tourist attraction centres either through direct government funding or through public / private partnership –  this should be encouraged  at tourist sites through  the provision of basic  infrastructural facilities such as electricity and water supply.

The forum advocates for improved security in addition to what the present State and Local Governments are doing.

Strengthening security in Kwara South with the involvement of the traditional rulers, local hunters and vigilantes and sharing intelligence / collaboration among the various Local Governments in Kwara South.

In the light of his towering leadership roles in Kwara south, Engr. Dr. J.B.O Adewumi was unanimously adopted as the leader of Kwara South.  The motion was moved by retired Gen. Olayemi Lasisi Abidoye and seconded by the deputy speaker of KWHA, Rt. Hon. Ojo Olayiwola and it was unanimously adopted’ the statement said.

 Attendees of the conference, the statement added, commended KSDI and the Convener, Engr (Dr) Johnson B.O. Adewumi for organizing the summit and urged that this should be sustained while also commending them for their dedication and immense contributions to the success of the summit.

The Abuja summit was attended by stakeholders in Kwara South including  Dr. Johnson Bamidele Adewumi,, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, Rt. Hon. Ojo Olayiwola, a member of Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Ganiyu Gabriel Abolarin, former Commissioner for Information, Alh. Raheem Adedoyin , retired Major General Olayemi Lasisi Abidoye , Commissioner for Communications, Mrs Bolanle Olukoju, Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Mary Rinke Arinde, and Alh. Wahab Agbaje ( a ka  Femi Whyte).

Others are the seven local government Chairmen in Kwara South; Hon. Wale Awelewa ( Ekiti), Hon. James Abiodun Fadipe ( Oke Ero), Hon. Femi Yusuf ( Ifelodun),  Hon. Azeez Tinuola Yakubu ( Irepodun),  Hon. Benjamin Jolayemi ( Isin),  Hon. Olatunji Sulaiman ( Offa) and  Hon. Kamar Akanbi ( Oyun) , former Commissioner for Sport , Barrister Kayode Towoju,  former  Chairman, Isin Local Government, Prince Ladi Omole, Prof. Bashir Ibrahim, Sir Debo Aderibigbe , Engr.
