Osun state House of Assembly on Monday urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to tread cautiously with regard to what should be the name and the nickname of the state.
The House of Assembly submitted that necessary steps were taken in respect of this ten years ago.
‘The usage of the state anthem , crest and flag is an enactment of law and as such , the usage is a matter of law and not choice.
The enactment ‘State of Osun anthem, crest and flag law 2012 assented to on 18th December 2012 contained in Schedule I, ii, iii, iv and v which carefully details every component of this law is not ambiguity.
Schedule I is the state anthem, Schedule ii has to do with the state crest, Schedule iii is the symbolic significance of the elements in the crest, Schedule iv is the flag and Schedule v is the symbolic significance of the elements in the flag’ Hon Moshood Kunle Akande , who is the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Publicity, submitted in a statement issued in Osogbo on Monday.
While noting that the state will retain Osun state as its name in compliance with a subsisting court ruling, he added however that the state shall continue to be referred to as ‘State of the virtuous’ ‘ Ipinle Omoluabi’.
It will be recalled that Justice Yinka Afolabi of the Osun state High Court , Ilesa had in December 2017 declared that the renaming of Osun State as ‘State of Osun’ by the Rauf Aregbesola administration was illegal and therefore, null and void.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned he had added that the law that gave birth to ‘State of Osun’ and its makers were unknown to the 1999 Constitution.
Governor Adeleke had in his inaugural speech on Sunday announced name changes submitting that Osun will henceforth be known as ‘Osun state’ and not ‘State of Osun’.
That was not all, it will also according to him return to its former nickname ‘State of the Living Spring’ and not the ‘Land of Virtue’ any longer-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
