State Police: Gov Makinde Reacts To Submission Of Memorandums By Colleagues , Calls It ‘Snipe Hunt’

The governor of Oyo state, Engineer Seyi Makinde submitted on Monday that the submission of memoranda by some among his colleagues with respect to plans to establish state police may not produce the desired results.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Makinde ,who said this while appearing on Channels TV’s Politics Today programme, also gave his opinion about the reports submitted to the National Economic Council by 16 state governors calling for the establishment of state police.
They had also recommended that the constitution should be amended to allow the establishment of state police.
Makinde has faulted this approach noting that the National Assembly, and not the NEC or the National Security Adviser should canvass for state police in order to make it realizable.
.
The governor, who clarified that he did not submit any memorandum on state police , also called what his colleagues have done , a snipe hunt.
‘I did not submit any memorandum in respect of the state police. But my position is very clear about state police. I see it, quite frankly, as a waste of our time.
I did not submit, not out of arrogance but because I don’t think the approach will quickly get us to where we want to go. You are asking the states to submit memoranda on how state police will work’ he said.
The governor noted that the National Assembly ought to spearhead and lead the way with regard to such an issue given its constitutional nature, before being adopted by state Houses of Assembly.
‘The National Assembly knows what to do. They have people who can quickly do this work. It is not the National Security Adviser or the National Economic Council that will deal with the issue of state police.
It is a constitutional thing and it should go to the National Assembly. Then, at the state level, we will get our state Houses of Assembly to pass it into law’ Makinde added-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
