Eric Chelle, who is the coach of the Super Eagles, has submitted that he is not afraid of losing his job because he did not become the coach of the national team to make money.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Eric, who called Super Eagles a very big team, also told UK-based Nigerian Journalist, Osasu Obayiuwana, during the 2024 CHAN tournament in Tanzania that he has not been meeting with officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) regularly.
‘I have heard a lot of stories about them wanting to sack me and replace me with someone else. I have heard about that.
I know, quite well, that I can be fired after one match. This is life in football. But if they decide to do that, they must be prepared to pay up the remainder of my contract.
When I came to Nigeria, I didn’t come here because of money. I was earning more in my last job. I came to Nigeria because this is a very big team and I want to prove something, to achieve something. I came here for the challenge. Nothing has changed about that.
I have not had very much contact with the NFF president and the general secretary since I took charge of the team. We met at the very beginning, of course, and a few times afterwards. But I have been alone, largely, as I go on with doing my job’ he said.
Chelle was appointed as coach of the Super Eagles in January, and he had terminated a two-year contract at Algerian club, MC Oran before taking up his current role.
He had recently led the home-based team to the 2024 CHAN, where they were knocked out in the group stage.
They lost their first game 1-0 against Senegal, were humiliated 4-0 by Sudan before grabbing a consolatory 2-0 win against Congo in their last game–Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
