Supreme Court Draws Curtain On 2023 Presidential Election Outcome…Affirms President Tinubu’s Victory

The Supreme Court on Thursday, October 26 , 2023, drew the curtain on the 2023 Presidential election outcome.   Matters that have to do with the presidential election held on February 25, 2023, have since been brought to a close.

This was sequel to the decision of the nation’s apex court to agree with the  Presidential Election Petition Tribunal that  had Justice Haruna Tsammani as chairman with Justice Stephen Adah, Justice Monsurat Bolaji-Yusuf, Justice Moses Ugo and Justice Abba Mohammed as members which had last month upheld President Bola Tinubu’s victory.

Recall  that Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) , Professor  Mahmood Yakubu  had in February declared  Asiwaju Bola Tinubu , who was the APC presidential candidate,   winner  of the 2023 Presidential Election.

Tinubu had 8,794,726 votes , Atiku Abubakar, who was the PDP presidential candidate, got  6,984,520 votes,  Peter Obi  of the LP had 6,101,533 votes while the presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso  got 1,496,687 votes.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who was the PDP presidential candidate and  Mr. Peter Obi,  who was the LP presidential candidate had however picked holes in the decision of INEC to declare Tinubu as winner of the election  and asked the . Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to annul his victory.

Atiku, a former Vice President and Obi, a one-time governor of Anambra state, had later asked the Supreme Court to overrule the tribunal.

The nation’s apex court  in the judgment delivered by Justice John Okoro, on Thursday dismissed Atiku and Obi’s appeals, while other members of the panel also agreed with the ruling.

They also agreed with Okoro with regard to the decision to reject Atiku’s application seeking to present Tinubu’s credentials that was obtained from the CSU.

The other justices on the panel are Uwani Aji, Mohammed Garba, Ibrahim Saulawa, Adamu Jauro, Abubakar Tijjani, and Emmanuel Agim.

‘The application by Atiku is frivolous and vexatious and deserves to be dismissed. I find no merit in the appeal and it is dismissed, and I affirm the decision of the lower court’ Salawa Ibrahim said.

‘I agree with the reasoning of the decision , the fresh evidence was not authenticated by the authority before it was presented. It was not sealed or had the signature. It cannot be used in Nigeria without authentication.

I agree to why. It was obvious to all including those that brought it. The FCT violates the Fundamental principle of the interpretation of the Constitution and it must be interpreted in a way that provides equality. The parties should bear their cost’ Agim also added.

The apex court also noted that the issues raised by Obi had been dealt with in the Atiku’s appeal while adding that the issue of double nomination ought not to have been brought before the court-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
