Supreme Court Draws Curtain On 2024 Edo Guber Election Outcome, Affirms Gov Okpebholo’s Victory

The Supreme Court has drawn the curtain on the 2024 Edo State gubernatorial election outcome and matters that have to do with the governorship election that was held in the ‘Heartbeat of the Nation’ on September 21, 2024, have been brought to a close.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that this was sequel to the decision of the apex court to dismiss the appeal filed against Governor Monday Okpebholo’s victory by Mr. Asue Ighodalo, who was the PDP candidate in the election in question . 

The Supreme Court submitted on Thursday that Ighodalo and the PDP failed to establish the two grounds of their petition on non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2022 and overvoting. 

Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba who read out the lead judgment resolved four of the five issues in contention against Ighodalo. 

In the unanimous judgment, the petition of Ighodalo and PDP were declared unmeritorious and lacking in substance. 

The apex court also asked parties to the case including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Obekholo and the APC to bear respectful costs of litigation. 

Recall that PDP and Mr Ighodalo had challenged the declaration of Governor Monday Okpebholo, who was the APC candidate, as winner of the guber election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

They had alleged that the governorship election was marred by irregularities.

Recall also that the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal headed by Justice Wilfred Kpochi had on April 2, 2025, dismissed Mr. Asue Ighodalo’s petition while the Court of Appeal followed suit on May 29, 2025–Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
