Supreme Court Ruling On LG Autonomy ‘A Welcome Devt’,  It Will Free Us From ‘Supportive Role’-Gov AbdulRazaq

Supreme Court Ruling On LG Autonomy ‘A Welcome Devt’,  It Will Free Us From ‘Supportive Role’-Gov AbdulRazaq

Governor  AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of  Kwara state , who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), has disclosed that state governors in the country have welcomed the decision announced by the Supreme Court  on Thursday which granted autonomy to the local governments.

He noted that the state governors had actually considered the ruling as one that somewhat has  beneficial effects, adding that ‘our Attorney Generals have applied for the enrollment order, which we’ll study carefully’.

Team@orientactualmags.com  learned that AbdulRazaq said this while talking to State House correspondents after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Friday.

He was accompanied by the Chairman, APC Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, and  the Chairman, PDP Governors’ Forum, Alhaji Bala Mohammed.

Governor AbdulRazaq, who asserted that the state governments had in the real sense been bailing the local governments out, also disclosed that the NGF members would hold an important meeting on Wednesday and come up with resolutions.

‘We welcome the ruling of the Supreme Court; compliance is a given. Our attorney generals have applied for the enrollment order, which we’ll study carefully.

By and large, the governors are happy with the devolution of power with respect to local government autonomy. It relieves the governors of some burdens. People really don’t know how much states expend in bailing out local governments. It’s not going to affect the states; we’ve not tampered with local government funds.

What the local governments have to do is to manage themselves, especially with the upcoming minimum wage. They have to manage their affairs and make sure salaries are paid and that the traditional rulers get their five percent. Those are the main issues.

The Forum will meet next Wednesday to look at the issues wholly and then come up with resolutions.

As you are aware, the tripartite committee (on the minimum wage) has met and submitted its report. The decision on the figure is the prerogative of the president, which he would also transmit to the National Assembly for a robust debate before it’s adopted’ he added–Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
