Mallam Bolaji Abdulahi , a one-time Sports minister, has been accused of being responsible for the colleges of education crisis in Kwara state. This was reportedly due to the steps taken during his commissionership.
Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, who is currently the Kwara Central PDP senate candidate, served as Commissioner for Education between 2007 and 2011.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned an Ilorin-based high school teacher, Mr Kamaldeen Dare said this while appearing as a guest on Bolaji Galadima’s ‘Eto Wa’ programme on Sobi FM during the weekend.
‘Eto Wa’ is a programme sponsored by a leading Pro-Democracy group, Kwara Must Change.
Mr Kamaldeen said Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi was only promoting the concept of big ideas in rhetorics without having understanding of the concept itself.
He alleged that the current challenges facing all colleges of Education in the state was caused by the steps taken by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi during his commissionership.
‘It was during Bolaji Abdullahi’s commissionership, that most courses being offered by colleges of education in the state were cancelled and a college, which for example, had a student population of over 40,000 suddenly started having less than one thousand students’ Kamal said, adding that this development brought a situation where colleges of education could no longer generate enough funds to meet their obligations.
He noted that the colleges had been given autonomy during the material time in which they were expected to run the institutions with IGRs.
“How does Bolaji Abdullahi and the government that he was a member , expect the colleges to run their affairs independently, when they have already cut off the main source of their revenue by cancelling many courses that had brought more students to the colleges? He asked.
Mr Kamal added that this development was responsible for the current crisis at all colleges of education in the state, which had since resulted in lecturers not being paid for several months , noting that the current administration met all colleges of education on strike due to several months of unpaid salaries, which was for about 14months.
Another analyst, Mr Lanre Babadudu also alluded to the claim, stating that the ugly development in colleges of education at some point, made some lecturers become laborers, due to several months of unpaid salaries- Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
