
The representative of Osun West Senatorial District in the senate , Senator Lere Oyewumi PhD, has commended Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke of Osun state for taking steps to employ 5,250 new teachers in public primary and secondary schools in the state.
A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com noted that Senator Oyewumi said this during his visit to the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) office which is located within the premises of Osogbo Grammar School, and he has promised to donate a building to the State Government for the use of the commission.
The Senator lauded Governor Adeleke for organizing a credible Computer Based Test (CBT) for applicants to the state Teaching Service.
‘The CBT is a testimony of the governor’s love for quality education and an effort to alleviate the problem of unemployment in the state.
The secondary education system in the state had really been in shambles for the past few years until Senator Adeleke came to revitalize the decay in the education sector’ he said.
While welcoming the Senator, who is the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate to the commission’s office, TESCOM Chairman, Comrade Temitope Mustapha, who was represented by Commissioners 1 and 2 at the Commission; Dr. Abioye Oyewusi and Hon. Sikiru Oyelakin appreciated the Senator for his passion and love for education and particularly for his concern for the commission.
They explained that the Commission is making frantic efforts to rekindle the education light of secondary education in the state while lamenting that the past administration in the state had messed up the educational systems, particularly the secondary education which had put the state in 35th position in the West African Examination Council’s national assessment.
They maintained that only those who passed the CBT credibly in various subjects would be considered in the ongoing teacher recruitment exercise.
‘We are committed to excellence in the recruitment, but not half baked teachers.
We shall also train and run seminars for the teachers when they are employed in order to give them modern basic pedagogical skills needed for teaching’ the TESCOM Chairman said.
