Tertiary Education Commissioner Restates Kwara Govt’s Commitment To Improving Quality Education
Kwara State government has restated its commitment to improving quality education in the state citing the establishment of Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin.
A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by Mr Omotayo Ayanda noted that the state Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu said this while receiving officials of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) in her office on Thursday.
The COEASU officials were led by their Chairman, Comrade Yahaya Muhammed Ndagi.
The commissioner noted that the establishment of the Kwara State University of Education is a testament to Governor AbdulRazaq’s passion for quality education, saying ‘this administration is committed to creating more opportunities for higher learning, ensuring that students and academic staff benefit from a well-structured and forward-thinking education system’.
Hajia Modibbo Kawu also noted that the Kwara state Government is taking all necessary steps to address the concerns raised by COEASU and the entire college community sequel to the establishment of Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin.
Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, she added, values the contributions of the academic staff and remains committed to their professional growth and the development of educational institutions in the state.
She reassured COEASU that Governor AbdulRazaq is known for his proactive and responsive leadership promising that the governor would attend to all their requests accordingly.
Earlier, Comrade Yahaya Ndagi had expressed gratitude to the state government for the prompt payment of salaries and allowances which has according to him contributed to the smooth academic operations at the college.
He however used the opportunity to highlight several pressing issues that require immediate attention including the status of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, after the establishment of Kwara State University of Education.
Comrade Yahaya Ndagi emphasized the need for a clear transition framework while leadership vacancies, among other concerns should be adressed without delay.
Recall that the National Universities Commission (NUC) officially recognized the university on July 30, 2024, making it the 64th state-owned university and the 274th in the country while the university got off to a good start with the inauguration of its Governing Council by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in November 2024.
