Trophy: IBL Takes Down Offensive Billboard In Ilorin…It Was ‘A Provocative Action’ -IEDPU

 International Breweries Plc which is the producer of Trophy larger beer has removed an offensive billboard erected on Offa Garage Road, Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

The billboard quote that was considered as offensive says; ‘Trophy a tunilara o si to si o gege bi omo Ilorin’, Team@orientactualmags.com learned this was heavily criticized on social media because it was regarded as  ‘inappropriate’  .

 Following complaints that it ‘offended’ indigenes of the state capital , it was taken down and this is understandable because Ilorin is predominantly Muslims and Islam is a religion that forbids alcohol.

The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), the umbrella socio-cultural organization for  indigenes  of Ilorin Emirate, had called on relevant authorities to ensure the swift removal of the offensive billboard advertisement.

The union, in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Nurudeen Ibrahim,  had described the message contained in the advertisement in question as clearly offensive adding that it was deliberately  done to provoke the people of Ilorin Emirate.

The Union added that the  said advertisement ‘is a liberty taken too far’ and  should be swiftly removed in order to discourage resort to self-help from the concerned members of the community.

While noting that advertisement of products that are at variance to the culture of a given community should always be discouraged in such a place, the statement added that  the billboard quote attaching alcohol to the people of Ilorin, who are predominantly Muslims, ‘is a deliberate provocation to say the least’.
