Unilorin: Adeoye, Semiu Okanlawon, Oladosu Amos , Others Talk About Keys To Achieving Academic Excellence At NAOSS Freshers’ Orientation Programme

Former Dean,  Faculty of Arts, University of Ilorin, Professor A.A. Adeoye,  Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of  Ilorin Chapter, Dr. Alex Akanmu,  Sub-Dean, College of Health Sciences, Dr. Oyabambi  and a veteran journalist, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon , talked about keys to achieving academic excellence during the programme organized for fresh students by the National Association of Osun state Students (NAOSS), Unilorin Chapter, in Ilorin on Wednesday.

Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, who is the Patron of the association, served as Director of  Bureau of Communications in Osun state during the Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola administration.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the orientation programme  had as its theme; “Balance Between Academic Excellence and Capacity Building”,  and it was aimed at equipping new students at the institution with the required information that will help them to settle into the new surroundings and environments., and introduce them to the institution academically, socially and culturally.

Mr. Oladosu Amos, the author of The Battle of Ai: Strategizing for Substantial Success, Ologundudu Joseph (Royal Prince), President, Students’ Union, Unilorin, Hauwa Usman,  a former Students’ Union Presidential Candidate, and Helen Animashaun,  an SDG 10 Advocate , also gave speeches at the event.

President of the  National Association of Osun state Students (NAOSS), Unilorin Chapter,  Adiamo Abdullah, a 400-level medical  student, had earlier  declared the programme open.

Giving  his  remarks, Professor Adeoye urged all students  at the university to ensure that they remain focused and also take necessary steps  to achieve academic excellence.

 Also speaking , Dr. Alex  Akanmu  emphasized the need  for the  new and the old students to be focused and work towards achieving academic excellence.

 Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, who was represented by his daughter, Halimah,  urged the new and old  students to be focused and do away with distractions that may hinder them from achieving academic excellence and excelling in scholastic activities.

“Make focus and seriousness your watchwords on campus. You are here for a purpose, and for a period of time, depending on your course of study. I want to admonish you to put effort into your studies and take this seriously. 

Have your eyes on the ball and do not entertain any form of distractions that are capable of affecting your academic performance. Those of you who are the leaders of the association, I want to congratulate you for even volunteering to be a part of this effort, it is a noble thing to offer yourself for leadership positions’ he said-Team@orientactualmags.com
