Unilorin Student In ‘Good Academic Standing’ Commits Suicide, Cites ‘Financial Stress’
A 200 Level male student at the Department of Mass Communication, Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS), University of Ilorin, Kwara State, has embarked on a voluntary trip to the great beyond.
It was learned that the deceased student, who was in good academic standing, had cited ‘financial stress’ being experienced by his family.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the incident happened where he was living in the Oke-Odo area of Tanke, Ilorin, before his demise.
The deceased student reportedly lost his father a few years ago, while his mother, a retired schoolteacher, had been the only one providing for him while co-students had also reportedly assisted in paying his tuition fees and buying foodstuffs for him.
It was gathered that he died from pesticide ingestion which he took after his roommate had left for lectures, and in his suicide note, he cited financial stress.
His roommate had screamed and called for help when he saw his dead body.
A senior administrative officer at the institution, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident to journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday.
