Unilorin, Unilag, UI, ATBU, Redeemer’s, Covenant Deny Having Fake Professors

Public and private universities in the country during the weekend reacted to the list of fake professors that went viral last week.

The controversial list had sparked controversy among members of the public.

The list had claimed that 100 fake professors have been discovered at public and private universities in the country and it contained their names and respective institutions.

Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr Kunle Akogun , in a statement he issued in Ilorin and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com asserted that the  11 people, who the list claimed are lecturers at the university, were never at any point in time staff of the institution.

‘The attention of the management of the University of Ilorin has been drawn to a trending list of 100 fake professors in some universities in the country as purportedly uncovered by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Even though the NUC has dissociated itself from the list that first surfaced in December 2019, we deem it expedient to categorically disown the 11 so-called professors listed against the University of Ilorin in the recently exhumed report.

None of the persons on the list is on our University ‘s nominal roll, nor had any of them ever had any dealing with the University of Ilorin at any time or in any guise.

This clarification is necessary to assure our esteemed stakeholders that UNILORIN’s well-heeled reputation for high integrity and strict adherence to best global practices in everything we do, especially on issues of staff promotion, remains unsoiled and it can never be compromised.

We view the trending report as another antic of purveyors of fake news and mischief makers, and they should be rightly ignored’ he said.

In separate statement, the Head, Communication Unit , University of Lagos , Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem also noted that the attention of the management  team of the university has been drawn to an unsubstantiated report on social media claiming that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has uncovered fake Professors in some Nigerian Universities including UNILAG.

‘For the avoidance of doubt, the management  of the university hereby explicitly refutes the five names listed as ‘fake’ professors of the university.

Members of the university community and general public are enjoined to completely disregard the report as the persons listed are not our staff, and have never worked, at any point in time and in any capacity at the university’ she added.

Alaga-Ibraheem restated the commitment of the university to its mandate of being a topnotch citadel of higher education, indeed and in truth.

In its reaction, the management of ATBU said none of the seven names mentioned in the report are staff of the university.

The university in a statement issued on Saturday  by Zailani Bappa., Director, Directorate of Information and Public Relations, said the attention of the management team  was drawn to the trending story on social media and some online media that  the NUC uncovered about 100 fake professors in some Nigerian universities.

‘Among the listed 100 alleged professors are the names of seven that were mentioned as staff of ATBU.

While the authenticity of this story itself, remain in great doubt, the management of ATBU wishes to categorically state that none of the mentioned professors is a staff of the university, nor have interacted with the institution at any given time in whatever capacity’ the statement said.

The management team of ATBU advised stakeholders to disregard the story which it described as an attempt to smear the hard- earned reputation of the university.

The management team of Redeemer’s University ,Ede, Osun state, has also in a statement by Adetunji Adeleye, Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs Directorate,  rejected the list and submitted that it is fake..

Adeleye noted that the persons whose names were listed as professors at Redeemer’s University are not their staff and have never worked in the university at any point in time, in any capacity whatsoever.

He asserted  that these ‘professors’ are not known to us and anyone who deals with them as individuals or a group, does so at his or her own risk.

The University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo state, also on Sunday, described as baseless the story making the rounds that some fake professors have been discovered at  the institution.

The university, in a statement by the Registrar and Secretary to Council and Senate, Ganiyu Saliu said the names on the list are not bona-fide staff of the institution.

‘The management  team of the University of Ibadan read with dismay the baseless story making the rounds that some fake professors were discovered at the University. The management  team categorically states that none of the professors listed have ever been listed as staff of the university. Biennially, the University of Ibadan publishes its calendar wherein all the names of the bona fide academic staff are listed. These names are not on the Calendar.

Members of the public are enjoined to disregard such stories as the University of Ibadan would never jeopardize the integrity of its academic programmes by parading fake professors’  the statement added-Team@orientactualmags.com
