Uniosun: Senator Lere Oyewumi Visits Ikire Campus To Assess Infrastructure Needs

The Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Akogun Lere Oyewumi  on Thursday visited the Provost, College Of Humanities and Culture, Osun state University, Ikire campus, Professor Rotimi Fasan in his office.

 A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com quoted Senator Lere Oyewumi as saying  that the visit was to interact with those in charge of the Ikire campus   and assess the institution’s   infrastructure needs with a view to using his good offices to assist the institution and improve learning environment for the students and work environment for the staff.

Giving his welcome remarks, the Provost, Uniosun, College Of Humanity and Culture, Professor Rotimi Fasan, expressed his deep gratitude to the federal lawmaker for the visit.

The Provost, who said the university has grown in leaps and bounds over the years,  lamented that  ongoing Tetfund Projects at the institution have been abandoned while noting that poor funding has hindered the necessary upgrades in respect of facilities.

 He equally solicited support with regard to building more offices for staff, Lecture Theatres, and erecting perimeter fence  to enhance  security at the institution.

While appreciating the efforts of the  Provost of the college  towards ensuring  that the University witnesses greater infrastructural development and academic growth. Senator Lere Oyewumi however said infrastructural decay at the college  has become  a cause of concern and promised to take swift action  in order to address the challenges.

Senator Lere Oyewumi after  carrying out a tour of inspection , assured the Provost and workers at the institution  that Governor Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke ‘is also ready to reposition state-owned institutions’ to produce graduates that will compete favourably with their contemporaries globally.

He equally tasked the Provost with providing a detailed report of their needs, in order to support his efforts to overhaul education sector in the senatorial district.

Akogun Lere Oyewumi  has also visited the Provost, Federal College of Education, Iwo, Professor Rafiu Ibrahim Adebayo in his office.

 The President Muhammadu Buhari administration  had recently approved the establishment of six Federal Colleges of Education with one located in each of the geo-political zones in the country, and Osun state got that of the southwest.

While congratulating the pioneer Provost and his team, Senator Lere Oyewumi promised to support the institution in respect of provision of needed facilities.

Senator Lere Oyewumi, who described education as the bedrock of socio-economic development of any society, said  the establishment of the institution in the state would complement his efforts aimed at ensuring quality, qualitative, and functional education at all levels.

He noted that the establishment of more colleges of education in the country will further contribute significantly to the development of education in the country.

In his remarks, Professor Rafiu Ibrahim Adebayo commended and appreciated Senator Lere Oyewumi for the visit, while praising his outstanding leadership, and magnanimity and touching on  the  challenges  the newly established institution has faced.

Commending the Federal Government for the approved funds and  the Tetfund Special Intervention projects at the College of education’s permanent site, the provost also talked about the myriad of challenges the institution has faced including hostel accommodation, teaching facilities, medical center, lecture theater, accessible road, advanced ICT center and transportation.

He stated the need for corporate bodies and individuals to  support the Principal Officers of the institution  to ensure a smooth take-off.

Sen. Lere Oyewumi assured that as a member of the Senate committee on  Tertiary Institutions and Tetfund, he will seek further discussions with those in charge of the College of Education with regard to possible and specific ways he could assist the institution while enjoining the team to work hard to achieve success.–Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
