Unity Key To Societal Growth, Gov Idris Tells Muslims

Kebbi State governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, the Kauran Gwandu has emphasized the importance of unity among Muslims and the promotion of religious values calling it essential ingredients for societal growth and economic prosperity.

A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by Dr Idris’ Special Adviser on Media , Mr Yahaya Sarki on Sunday noted that the governor said this while welcoming participants to the Muslim Unity Convention held in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.

The event that was organized by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, brought together various Islamic groups who discussed ‘Responsible Leadership and Patriotism’.

‘I commend all the Islamic groups, Izala, Tijjaniyya, Qadiriyya, and others, for coming together to demonstrate unity.

With such sincere unity, brotherhood, and sustained fervent prayers, we can overcome the challenges confronting our nation’ he said.

Highlighting the issue of unemployment, especially among Nigerian youths especially the university graduates, Governor Idris noted that his administration has taken practical steps to address this problem.

‘In the last two years, my administration has employed about 5,000 workers, including over 2,000 new teachers, hundreds of nurses, and many casual workers who are now on permanent and pensionable appointments’ the governor submitted on Sunday.

He also disclosed that Skill Acquisition Centres have been established across the state, urging members of National Assembly to replicate similar initiatives.

‘These centres train participants in various trades and skills, and upon graduation, the government will provide them with starter packs and capital. The goal is to make youths self-reliant, reduce unemployment, and foster economic prosperity’ he added.

To support the participants, Governor Idris announced the donation of N30 million, while the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, donated N10 million.

In his keynote address, the Chief Imam of Abuja National Mosque, Professor Ibrahim Ahmad Makari, decried the challenges facing Muslim communities in Nigeria and across Africa.

He called on the Ulamas to be more proactive in addressing societal problems and urged leaders to work hand in hand with religious scholars.

‘Too many lives are being lost to banditry and insurgency. Youths are falling into crime, drug abuse, and moral decay due to joblessness. We must never lose hope. Justice must be the foundation of governance’ Prof. Makari said.

He also commended Governor Idris for honoring religious clerics and promoting moral values in our society.

Earlier, Kebbi State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Arc. Sani Aliyu, traced the long-standing demand for the establishment of the Ministry, which only materialized under Governor Idris’ leadership.

‘This convention brings together Islamic groups from within and outside Kebbi, promoting Muslim unity under the governor’s charismatic leadership’ he said.

The commissioner praised the governor’s fairness and inclusive leadership, citing his support for both Muslims and Christians in the state.

‘Governor Idris has appointed Christians as Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants, cleared their N18 million debt from the Jerusalem pilgrimage, and recently allocated land for a Christian cemetery’ he added.

Highlight of the event was the investiture of the Governor as ‘Khadimul Islam’ in recognition of his unwavering commitment to religious affairs- Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
