Unmarried Female Cops Who Get Pregnant Now Saved From Dismissal- AIG Aishatu Baju

Female cops, who are still single and become pregnant will no longer be sent packing as the Nigeria Police Force has abolished regulations that previously recommended such an action.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Aishatu Baju, an Assistant Inspector General of Police, who is the most senior female officer in Nigeria Police Force, confirmed this development while appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief programme on Wednesday.
Recall that a police corporal, Omolola Olajide, was dismissed from the Force in Ekiti State after she became pregnant in 2021 and this had sparked debate and criticism.
Baju explained that all discriminatory sections of the Police Act, including Section 127, which was used to justify the dismissal of pregnant unmarried officers, have been expunged in line with ongoing police reforms.
‘That section, along with any other part of the Police Act that discriminates against female officers, has been removed under the Police Act 2020.
The Inspector General of Police has also introduced the Nigeria Police Gender Policy to ensure full inclusivity and equal opportunities for all officers’ she said.
When asked directly whether unmarried female cops would still be dismissed if they become pregnant, Baju , who noted that the Force is committed to eliminating gender-based discrimination and fostering a more inclusive institution, said ‘No’- Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
