Why I Appointed Ex-Gombe CJ As Chairman Of Committee That’ll Probe Tambuwal Administration-Sokoto Gov
Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto state has inaugurated a judicial commission of enquiry to scrutinize some of the actions taken by the Aminu Tambuwal administration .
Aliyu said he took a decision to choose a former chief judge of Gombe state, Justice Muazu Pindiga as head of the committee to show the people that he would not compromise while disclosing that the committee has been given two months to make its report available.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Aliyu , who said this after inaugurating the committee in Sokoto, the state capital, asked the members to act in accordance with the law, saying part of his campaign promises was to ensure accountability and transparency.
The governor noted that coming up with the idea of setting up the committee was to yield to the yearnings of the people of the state that deserve to know how public funds were managed by the last administration.
‘In order to let people know that I will not compromise, we decided to look for a very competent personality outside the state to be the chairman of the enquiry. That is why we have chosen a former Chief judge in far away Gombe state to be the chairman. I am sure you will all agree with me that all the members of this panel are men of impeccable character’ he said.
Chairman of the committee, Pindiga also said the panel would do its work without fear or favour while noting that the terms of reference include looking into the circumstances under which some properties belonging to the government were sold.
‘Others include indiscriminate allocation of land to people as well as to confirm how payments made for such items were utilized’ he added.
Other members of the committee are Chief Jacob Ochidi (SAN), Usman Abubakar, Lema Sambo Wali, Alhaji Haliru Dingiyadi while Nasiru Mohammed Binji will serve as secretary.
