Why I Couldn’t Save PDP From ‘Intractable’ Intraparty Conflict, Losing Presidential Primary ‘ll Not Make Me Leave ADC-Atiku
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has disclosed that certain factors made it practically impossible for him to save the PDP from ‘intractable’ intraparty conflict and he was therefore left with no option than to leave the party for ADC.
Party officials at the national level, he noted, are not ready to support measures that would have had the intraparty conflict fully addressed.
‘I could have taken some firm decisions to fix the party if I were the chairman or secretary of the party, or someone who listened to me was the chairman or secretary. Sadly, the people occupying those positions have different interests that are primarily personal to them’ he said.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar said this in an interview with BBC Hausa service on Wednesday.
Although, he was not categorical about running for president in 2027, he however promised not to leave the ADC if he loses the party’s presidential primary.
‘This is only the beginning. Our priority is to establish the party and gain a strong following’ he submitted when asked if he would be launching a presidential bid.
‘ If I run for office, and a young man defeats me, I will accept that. The party we have joined now prioritizes youth and women’ he said.
The former Vice President also said he will not leave ADC if he launches a presidential bid and fails to win the presidential primary.
‘No, I’m not known for that. If I say so, then I’ll go that way’ he said.
Alhaji Atiku also accused the ruling APC of making party cohesion and unity impossible in the PDP hence the decision to leave the party for ADC.
‘Besides, that is one of the reasons we set up ADC, which I am a member of.
The APC government in power has decided to use some party leaders to frustrate efforts of having a strong opposition that could challenge the government.
As the day went by, the crises in PDP were growing, and the hope of resolving it was speedily vanishing because the government was allegedly using some senior members of the party to destabilize the party further, and we could see that in their actions and utterances’ he added.
He also said efforts are underway to establish ADC structures at the state, local government and ward levels having had that of the ‘national’ level firmly established.
‘Regarding the ADC, our goal is to establish the party structures at the state level. We have already established the national leadership, and they are working on ensuring the state and local government structures are strengthened and ready for the 2027 elections’ the former VP added-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
