Why I Volunteered To Bring Gambari Mosque Project To Completion-Yakubu Gobir
Kwara state YPP Gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Yakubu Gobir on Wednesday expanded on reasons why he volunteered to take the ongoing Gambari mosque project to completion.
He said the love for his family, Ilorin community and Kwara state as a whole had made him continue to show concern for the happiness and welfare of others and take steps to touch people’s lives.
Gobir said this in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, while giving his speech during the prayer session and handover ceremony of the Gambari Mosque project.
The Gambari mosque is of historical significance , for 200 straight years, Tafsir had been held at the mosque during the holy month of Ramadan while Eid-Prayers had also been held there for 200 unbroken years.
Gobir also said he had seemingly focused attention on ancient and historic buildings like he had done in respect of the mosque citing the Oke-Suna primary school , Ilorin which was in a deplorable state and gotten rehabilitated and equipped with solar- powered lights and computer centre through his foundation..
He noted however that he was happy to have sponsored the Oke-Suna primary school renovation project being a school that had many prominent Nigerians as products ,where his late father was also a teacher. Gobir added that the first Waziri of Ilorin was a student, a teacher and later a headmaster at the school in question. .
Taking questions from journalists including Team@orientactualmags.com as he made to leave the venue of the event, the YPP guber candidate, who is the Wazirin Hausa of Daura and the Madawaki of Ilorin, noted that he is though not the richest person in Ilorin or Kwara state as a whole but he however strongly believes in showing concern for the well-being of others which should be the ultimate goal.
Noting that doing this had not been without challenges he however said he had stayed committed because of his being altruistic
‘One of the challenges is that when you even volunteer to do things, people will attack you but when you have it at the back of your mind that it is for the land, your community and not the people, you will not be discouraged’ he said.
Commenting on the recent flood incidents recorded in the country, the YPP guber candidate indentified global warming as a causative factor.
‘It’s is beyond what anyone can control, it is as a result of global warming.
The federal government is not the problem, the issue is very clear, global warming is here to stay and it will continue to have effect on our environment’ he said.
Also responding to a reporter’s question with regard to the promise made by the state PDP chairman, Alhaji Babatunde Mohammed on Tuesday that the party will ensure an issue-based and a violence –free campaign, Gobir described this as a welcome development saying he not only subscribes to such a position but also hopes that all the political parties will follow suit..
Referring to all the gubernatorial candidates in the state as ‘brothers’ , he cautioned his supporters and those supporting other guber candidates against cyber bullying and hate speeches noting that whoever does that would be considered as being on ‘his or her own’.
‘We are all brothers, we’ve all known each other all our lives. We do call each other, laugh and joke’ he said.
Earlier in his short sermon , Sheikh Suleiman Sonu Shehu, who was the guest lecturer , had commended Alhaji Yakubu Gobir for the initiative saying , the Gobir family had always been known for being altruistic citing how one of the patriarchs of the family was known for distributing money to people at the family house on Fridays.
He noted that a person ,who is truly rich is someone ,who is wealthy and willing to spend and make money available when people request for assistance, while a true cleric is also one who when asked for explanations on matters that have to with religion would be forthcoming..
He commended Alhaji Yakubu Gobir for taking over the mosque project which he described as a historic building- Team@orientactualmags.com
