Kebbi State Government has announced the decision not to go ahead with the planned 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival which was scheduled to hold next month.
The Fishing and Cultural Festival will now hold in February 2026, the State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Abubakar Tafida, who is the Chairman the of 2025 Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival committee, submitted in a statement he issued in Birni Kebbi and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Wednesday.
He noted that the state government took the decision after due consultations with all the critical stakeholders.
The statement added that the decision to reschedule the festival was necessitated by the dire need to carry out major repair work at designated venues for the event.
It was also noted that the decision to postpone the festival was sequel to the ongoing road dualization and a myriad of other developmental projects in Argungu township.
The statement quoted the Deputy Governor as adding that the decision was also as a result of peculiar reasons that necessitated the postponement of the festival to 2026.
The statement also averred that the state government is firmly committed to organizing the best fishing and cultural festival, that will showcase the rich cultural heritage of the people of the state in 2026
