Wike-Fubara Rift Deepens As Rivers Assembly Begins Impeachment Proceedings Against The Governor
Sings emerged on Thursday that Minister of FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike has decided to fight with all his might and  possibly get the governor of Rivers State, Mr Siminalayi Fubara out of ‘The Brick House‘, Port Harcourt this year and end the idea of having him as a sitting governor before the upcoming 2027 governorship election.
Rivers State House of Assembly on Thursday began impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy, Ngozi Odu and allegations of gross misconduct have been leveled against them.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that 26 people among members of the house of assembly raised the allegations in a notice that was read out during plenary session by Majority Leader, Hon Major Jack, on Thursday.
Recall that the lawmakers had begun impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy in March last year and the declaration of state of emergency by President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. had made them abandon it.
The lawmakers noted that their action is in line with ‘Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and other existing laws’ with the Speaker, Hon Martin Amaewhule noting that the notice will be sent to Governor Fubara in the next seven days.
Allegations raised against the governor include the demolition of the Assembly Complex, extra budgetary spending, withholding funds meant for the Assembly Service Commission, a refusal to obey the Supreme Court on the financial autonomy of the house.
The Deputy Majority Leader, Hon Linda Stewart, also submitted separate notice in which allegations of gross misconduct were raised against Odu. The lawmakers accursed her of reckless and unconstitutional spending of public funds, obstruction of the House of Assembly from performing her constitutional duties as outlined by the 1999 Constitution, conniving to allow unauthorized persons to occupy offices without proper screening by the legitimate House of Assembly.
They also accused her of approaching another group of people for budgetary approval instead of the legitimate Rivers State House of Assembly, seizure of salaries and allowances accruing to the RSHA and the Assembly Service Commission.
The impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara will no doubt worsen political tension in the ‘Treasure Base of the Nation’, and no one can predict what will happen this time around cognizant that the governor is now a member of the ruling APC while the minister remains a member of the opposition party-Team@orientactualmags.com   Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
