Yaman Urges COREN To Stop Idiagbon Road Flyover Project
Kwara state PDP gubernatorial candidate , Alh. Shuaibu Yaman Abdullahi , has called on the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, to stop further work on the ongoing Idiagbon Road flyover project, Tanke, Ilorin to avoid what he called ‘a potential catastrophe’.
The PDP guber candidate in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba noted that he had to do this sequel to the incident recorded at 7th Avenue, Gwarimpa, Abuja on Thursday where a two-storey building had suddenly caved in.
.
Alh Yaman alleged that investigations had revealed that the project has no qualified consultant, contractor or practitioner on site, ‘as those currently working there are suspected to be unqualified direct labour workers.
The PDP guber candidate added that he was surprised and shocked to learn that the state government had earlier refused COREN to carry out its regulatory responsibility of ascertaining compliance with laid down statutes governing the construction of public buildings and structures, which he claimed had necessitated his investigation and subsequent discovery.
He has urged COREN to immediately direct its development control unit in Ilorin to, in the interest of the public, especially the large population of students who live in the area, halt work on the construction project until adequate inspection and confirmation by the council.
It will be recalled that over 40 persons are reportedly trapped under the collapsed building at 7th avenue, Gwarimpa, Abuja, while several persons are yet to be accounted for.
The statement claimed that the Gwarimpa building had collapsed because quacks were engaged in the construction project alleging that this was ‘similar to what is happening at the Idiagbon Road flyover construction project site except this is proven otherwise by the regulatory body’-Team@orientactualmags.com
