Yuletide: Bags Of Rice Distributed To Constituents Not From FG, I Bought Them-Rep Bamidele Salam
A member of the House of Representatives, Rep Bamidele Salam ,has asserted that the bags of rice he distributed to his constituents ahead of the Christmas and the New Year celebrations were not sourced from the Federal Government through its Food Support Scheme.
The federal lawmaker , who represents Ede North/ Ede South/ Egbedore/ Ejigbo federal constituency , Osun state, in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by Lubem Gena also denied engaging in dishonest practice explaining that he is yet to receive the bags of rice distributed to federal lawmakers through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture while clarifying that he bought the food item he distributed to constituents last month.
Recall that the Federal Government had taken steps to ease things for the citizens following the removal of petrol subsidy and its concomitant economic hardships.
Apart from the concessionary travel scheme introduced by the Federal Government ahead of the yuletide, arrangements were also made to make 1,000 bags of rice (50kg) and 2,000 bags of rice (50kg) available to each of the reps members and the senators respectively for onward distribution to their respective constituents.
Recall also that there were accusations on social media especially WhatsApp groups that federal lawmakers from Osun state had sold the bags or rice allocated to them to their colleagues from the north.
Some had also accused them of not making all the bags of rice they had received available to their respective constituents.
‘The attention of the Media office of the member representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo federal constituency , Osun state in the National Assembly, Representative Bamidele Salam, has been drawn to some false and malicious comments being propagated by some commentators on Social Media.
Even though one would have ordinarily ignored the promoters of the falsehood because they are known political online jobbers, we have however decided to make the following clarifications for the benefit of genuine information seekers who may be misled by the false publications in reference:
1. This office wishes to confirm that there is a food palliative for each of the Federal constituencies in Nigeria as part of the 2023 supplementary budget of the Federal Government passed by the National Assembly.
2. The programme is domiciled in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security as part of its core mandate.
3. Information available to this office indicated that the Ministry has awarded the supply of the food items to contractors about two weeks ago. We equally confirmed that the contractors and the Ministry are yet to conclude necessary documentation before supplies can be effected.
4. The Hon member is in touch with the Ministry to confirm time and location of delivery in order to effectively monitor the even distribution to the four local governments after the items are supplied by the contractor.
5. The food items distributed by the Hon member during the Christmas and New year celebrations are his personal initiative and has nothing to do with the ones being handled by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security which is yet to be delivered.
