Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state on Tuesday disclosed that he has approved the setting up of a committee that will ensure a non-partisan distribution of rice to the people of the state ahead of the yuletide while noting that the beneficiaries must be from all segments of society.
The governor in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by his spokesman, Mallam Olawale Rasheed also clarified and asserted that ‘the Sure-P fund is intact and in safe hands’.
‘The government also wishes inform Osun People that the Sure-P fund which Governor Adeleke stopped former government from siphoning off , remains intact and safe in the bank accounts of the local governments’ Olawale said.
The statement quoted Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hon Teslim Igbalaye to have noted that a committee that will handle the distribution of the bags of rice at the Ward level will comprise :
1. A member of the league of Imams;
2. A member of the Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN);
3. A member of the Traditional Religion worshippers ;
4. A member of the People’s Democratic Party( PDP) ;
5. A member of the All Progressives Congress(APC)
6. A Pensioner/Retiree
7. A female
The statement added that 40 bags of rice are to be distributed per ward, explaining that the transparency in the entire process was to ensure that the funds used in buying the bags of rice achieves the goal of ‘Osun money for Osun development’.
‘While the 40 bags of rice per ward were purchased at N32,000 each, the bags of rice for distribution at the state level were purchased from ‘Egbe Olowo of Osun state at N36,000 each , a price still below similar transaction by the previous government.
It would be recalled that the previous administration purchased the bags of rice distributed last year at forty thousand naira each, a narrative the new government has changed through direct purchase and transparent distribution process.
To affirm his commitment to transparency, Governor Adeleke ordered that membership of committee for the distribution of the rice and the targeted beneficiaries must include all segments of society.
His Excellency affirms that this administration is not a thieving government like that of his predecessor and he remains committed to cushioning the effect of the hard time on all segments of Osun society.
Media reports claiming that only PDP members are benefiting or that the Sure-P fund was diverted is therefore false and untrue . It is also pure falsehood to claim that Heads of Local Government Administration have been denied their entitlements. All issues pertaining to entitlements of public servants are being attended to by the relevant offices.
Osun people can bear witness that the family of His Excellency has consistently distributed food items to Osun people for the past several decades. The philanthropic family with one of its own as the State Governor is determined to elevate the tradition of giving as a state policy.
We therefore assure Osun people that the Adeleke administration is not a thieving government and will not in any way follow the path of the past.
