Yuletide: PDP Laments Exclusion Of Kwara From Concessionary Travel Scheme
Kwara state PDP on Saturday expressed deep dismay and complained about the State of Harmony not getting included among the states that will have their respective residents as beneficiaries of the concessionary travel scheme introduced by the Federal Government ahead of the yuletide.
The federal government through the concessionary travel scheme will pay 50% of the fares of citizens of twenty two out of the thirty six states in the country . This was sequel to the removal of petrol subsidy and its concomitant economic hardships.
Kwara state PDP in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by its State Publicity Secretary, Hon Olusegun Olusola Adewara said this has shown that there is nobody at the top to push for interests of the State of Harmony despite having the governor of Kwara state as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
‘Despite Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s status as current Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and a member of the ruling APC, Kwara is conspicuously absent from this important initiative which would have benefitted hundreds of our people across all states of the federation who would be visiting home for Charismas and year festival break.
As a party, we join the good people of Kwara in questioning the benefits Kwarans have derived from Governor Abdulrazaq’s chairmanship of the Governors’ Forum, especially when he seemingly cannot effectively defend the interests of his people at the federal executive council during decision-making processes by the Federal Government.
Let us assume that the federal government has refused to show needed concern about the welfare of our people at this time, is it too much if the Kwara state government offers some internal assistance to our people coming from different parts of the country despite the huge financial inflow to the state recently? Governor Abdulrahman, just like his colleagues in other states, had just received another N9 billion intervention from the federal government, what is wrong with committing part of this fund to assisting Kwarans who are coming home to celebrate the yuletide?
This raises serious concerns about the governor’s commitment to advancing the interests of the Kwara people or whether his political achievements merely serve personal ambitions.
We also call on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to explain why he could not provide even the staggering N10,000 cash assistance to all Kwara workers as earlier promised, especially when other states are providing N25,000, N35,000, and N100,000 and 13th month salary to their workers. Governor Abdulrahman holds the position of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum’s Chairman for the benefit of the people but fails to meet the expectations of his people back home in Kwara.
We recall the tenure of Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, the leader of PDP in Kwara, as Governors’ Forum’s Chairman, during which he prioritized Kwara’s interests.
