2 Kwara Assembly Members Leave APC For PDP

2 Kwara Assembly Members Leave APC For PDP

Two members of Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Saba Yisa Gideon (Edu state Constituency) and Hon Shola Odetundun (Irepodun state constituency) have left APC for PDP.

Hon Saba Gideon in the resignation letter sent to the Chairman of APC in Tsaragi Ward 3, Edu Local Government which was dated August 19, 2026, said his decision to leave the party was sequel to consultations with his constituents and other stakeholders.

Recall that Hon. Saba Yisa Gideon was in December last year suspended by the House of Assembly for three months.

This was sequel to the motion moved without notice by the Leader of the House, Hon. Abdulkadir Magaji, who cited Order 4, Rule 14 of the House’s privileges rules and Section 14(2) of the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act 2017.

He was accused of secretly recording discussions made during a closed‑door meeting held in the Speaker’s office which he allegedly made available to a non-member,

After quitting APC on Thursday, Hon Gideon noted that party switching will not in anyway stop him from continuing to deliver quality representation.

‘I remain committed to serving the people of Edu State Constituency, Kwara State, and Nigeria with integrity, dedication, and accountability’ he said.

In separate resignation letter sent to APC Chairman in Ajase Ward II, Irepodun Local Government, Hon Shola Odetundun said he took the decision to say  ‘To your tents, O Israel!’ and kiss APC bye after extensive consultations with stakeholders, supporters, associates and members of his constituency.

He also cited reflection on recent political developments and the need to realign his political trajectory to better serve the interests of his constituency.

While the House of Representatives, senate and presidential elections will be held on January 16, 2027, governorship and House of Assembly elections are scheduled to hold on February 6, 2027.

The two state lawmakers, who were not renominated by their party, have gotten PDP as a place of refuge and they will be nominated for House of Assembly by their new party.

An APC bigwig in the state who spoke on condition of anonymity told Team@orientactualmags.com on Thursday night that Hon Shola Odetundun in his heart of hearts knows that he cannot provide an acceptable reason or a reasonable argument for his decision to leave APC.

The popular politician, who is from Kwara South, asserted that the state lawmaker failed to get renominated by the APC because he lost the House of Assembly primary.

What happened in the state APC last week and this week is considered as ‘bountiful blessings’ for the state PDP.

With the development recorded on Thursday, the state PDP that had no political office holders until last week, now has a member of the senate and two members of the House of assembly.

One of the Principal Officers of the House of Assembly, Hon Oba Magaji may also have his status witnessing metamhoposis– as he may henceforth be called ‘Majority Leader’ not ‘House Leader’
