2026 Osun Guber: Gov Adeleke Condemns Violence In Ede, Osogbo As APC Decision To Make Concession Eases Tension In Oriade LG

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has condemned in strong terms what he described as coordinated attacks on residents of Ile Ife, Ede and Osogbo by some political thugs on Tuesday.

While alleging that pro-Ambo political thugs carried out the attacks in question, the governor also urged President Bola Tinubu to rein in Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr Gboyega Oyetola and the APC guber candidate, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, who is popularly called Ambo.

A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed noted that he said this while presiding over an emergency press conference at the Government House, Osogbo on Tuesday adding that the dastardly acts began in Ile Ife after which the attackers left for Akoda, Owode, Olaiya, Old Garage, Okefia and other parts of Osogbo.

The political thugs, who allegedly moved around in a 15-vehicle convoy emblazoned with AMBO’s pictures, carried out the attacks without any response from the police.

‘As at the time of holding this press conference, several residents were feared injured and even one or two people killed. The attackers are being led by thugs who are popularly called Aleba and Asiri

Worst still, the state police command has not raised a finger to stop the attacks or arrest the attackers. These attacks are outrageous, unprovoked and a deliberate step to plunge the state into chaos.

I condemn in the strongest possible terms the destabilising roles of Marine Minister, Gboyega Oyetola and the state APC guber candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. The provocation is getting to an unbearable level. For the past few months, I have been calming my people to maintain peace despite persistent attacks.

Just a month or so ago, an Accord Party youth leader was killed in Ikire. A few days ago, the Osogbo chairman of Accord was shot in Osogbo. These attacks must stop. Our people should not be pushed to the wall. 

I call on the National Security Adviser, the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of DSS and other top security officials to shine a special light on Osun State. I appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rein in Mr Oyetola and Oyebamiji’ the governor said.

The statement added that the governor later visited the flashpoints and victims of the coordinated attacks  while reassuring residents of his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

He also directed security agencies to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.

Governor Adeleke immediately visited the Osun State Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, where he interacted with the injured persons, their families, and the medical personnel who are attending to them.

The governor also used the opportunity to pay a get-well-quick and solidarity visit to the Chairman of Accord in Osogbo Local Government who was attacked last week by assassins suspected to have been contracted by political enemies.

He later left for the Cottage Hospital, Ede, where victims of the attacks are also receiving medical attention. 

The governor sympathized with the injured victims and assured them that the state government will not abandon them in their moment of pain.

Speaking during the visits, Governor Adeleke condemned the attacks in strong terms, describing it as unfortunate, reprehensible, and contrary to the peaceful culture for which Osun State is known.

He reiterated that political differences should never degenerate into violence, intimidation, or attacks on innocent citizens, emphasizing that democracy thrives on dialogue, tolerance, and respect for the rule of law.

‘I am deeply saddened by the reports and the injuries inflicted on innocent citizens. No political ambition is worth the blood or suffering of our people. Osun remains a peaceful state and we will not allow any individual or group to disrupt the peace that our people have worked hard to sustain’ he added.

Governor Adeleke directed security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incidents and ensure that all those responsible, regardless of their status or political affiliation, are identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He also assured residents that additional security measures are being activated across vulnerable locations to prevent further attacks and maintain law and order in the state.

The governor expressed concern over the increasing pattern of politically motivated attacks and stressed that no member of any political party should be subjected to violence for exercising their constitutional rights.

He prayed for the speedy recovery of all victims and called on political actors across party lines to caution their supporters against actions capable of threatening public peace and democratic stability.

Governor Adeleke urged residents of the state to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies as investigations continue, assuring them that his administration remains firmly committed to safeguarding every citizen of Osun State.

In the meanwhile, tension that had built up in Oriade local government following separate announcements made by two major political parties in the state; Accord Party and the APC that they will be inaugurating their canvassers ahead of the August 15 gubernatorial election in Ijebu-jesa today, Wednesday, June 10, 2026, got eased on Tuesday.

This was sequel to the decision of APC to make a concession and postpone its event until a future date.

Ijesha North APC submitted on Tuesday evening that ‘this decision follows the official advisory issued by Osun State Police Command, which directed all political parties to suspend gatherings, rallies, processions, and campaign activities in Oriade Local Government due to prevailing security concerns’ while urging ‘all our members, canvassers, and supporters across Oriade and Ijesa North at large to remain calm, disciplined, and law-abiding’ and noting that ‘a new date for the inauguration ceremony will be communicated in due course after consultations with relevant stakeholders and security authorities’.

When rival political parties hold events in a small city on the same day, the possibility of violence and public unrest will definitely increase significantly due to heightened tensions, and the concentration of passionate supporters in a confined area.

Sources told Team@orientactualmags.com that the Accord Party will be going ahead with its planned inauguration of election canvassers today at the Ijebu-jesa roundabout while a member of the party also told our reporter on Tuesday night that it was the APC that had sought to court trouble by announcing plans to inaugurate its canvassers in the same town and on the same day.

 ‘We are going ahead with our programme, we will inaugurate our canvassers in the local government today, the Deputy Commissioner of Police was in Ijebu –jesa on Tuesday to assess situation and inspect where we want to use as venue. 

We sent a letter to notify the Commissioner of Police of our plans to hold the event three weeks ago, surprisingly, APC suddenly announced that its inauguration of canvassers will also hold on the same day.
