2027: APC Governors Clash With Wike Over ‘Rainbow Coalition’

Ahead of the 2027 general election, governors who are members of the ruling APC, on Monday declared that they are not in support of the ‘rainbow coalition’ that Minister of FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike has promoted in the nation’s political landscape for close to a year now submitting that it may be ‘counterproductive’.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Chairman of the APC Governors Forum, who is also the governor of Imo State, Mr Hope Uzodimma, said this at the end of the meeting held by the APC governors in Abuja on Monday night.

He submitted that the governors have not entered into any formal agreement with any individual or opposition party ahead of the 2027 general election.

Recall that Mr Nyesom Wike, who is the ‘unofficial’ leader of one of the factions of the PDP at the national level, has been championing a Rainbow Coalition movement in Rivers State in support of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

The ‘rainbow coalition’ also involves members of Wike’s faction across the country. The FCT minister had also recently disclosed that Governor Ademola Adeleke and some serving federal lawmakers he had eased party nominations for after being denied such in the APC are in support of the ‘rainbow coalition’ which has the ultimate goal of ensuring President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.

The APC governors have however expressed commitment to arrangements that will ensure ‘electoral victory’ for candidates of the party at all levels submitting that they are not in any way involved in ‘rainbow coalition’.

‘The APC Governors’ Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels.

In other words, the forum has no intention to support any candidate at any level that is not an APC candidate because our candidates who are contesting the election are being sponsored by our party.

The governors’ campaign commitment is exclusively to all APC candidates. All levels of the party campaign architecture will align with the expectations of Mr President and the strategic objectives of the party’ Mr Hope Uzodinma submitted on Monday night.

Reacting to the stance of the APC governors, Mr Nyesom Wike in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mr Lere Olayinka on Tuesday said his support for President Bola Tinubu remains sacrosanct, but however noted that he never promised anyone that PDP will not field candidates for senate, reps, governorship and house of assembly elections.

‘What I said and stand for is that I will mobilise support for the re-election of the President. I never promised anyone that PDP will not field candidates for governorship, National Assembly and House of Assembly elections.

Most importantly, rainbow coalition has nothing to do with the APC.
