2027: Attention Returns To Kwara APC Gubernatorial Nomination Battle As 10 Aspirants Call May 22 Primary A Sham In Letter To President Tinubu
A viral picture taken during the meeting held by some among Kwara State APC gubernatorial aspirants in Abuja on Thursday returned attention to the gubernatorial nomination battle in the state chapter of the party and for the better part of the day, many had got busy analyzing the dynamics of the political maneuvers and intrigues.
A joint letter sent to President Bola Tinubu by attendees of the Abuja meeting which was dated June 19, 2026, surfaced online on Friday and it made the tense standoff regarding the nomination of Speaker Yakubu Danladi for governor more noticeable.
Recall that Chairman of the Kwara State APC Governorship Primary Committee, Musliu Obanikoro, a former senator, had announced Speaker Yakubu Danladi as winner of the primary election held on May 22, 2026.
Hon Yakubu Danladi is the Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly.
Obanikoro had noted that Speaker Danladi got 94,990 votes, Alhaji Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki had 41,700 votes while Dr. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa got 22,118 votes.
Engr. Femi Sani had 5,519 votes; former Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe got 3,920 votes; Mr Dele Belgore SAN had 3,411 votes; Hon Mohamed Bio got 1122 votes; Dr. Alabi Oluwatoyin, 1099 votes; Prof. Wale Suleiman, 2434 votes while Prof. Abubakar Suleiman got 1722 votes.
Team@orientactualmags.cpm learned that Dr. Oluwatoyin Tajudeen Alabi, Captain Ahmad Mahmud, Alhaji Tajudeen Audu, Dr. Azeez Salako Muideen Olaniyi, Alhaji Abdulfatahi Yahaya Seriki, Senator Saliu Mustapha, Dr. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, Rep Omar Muhammed Bio, Barr. Dele Belgore (SAN) and Dr. Yahaya Ibrahim Oloriegbe, a former senator, in a letter sent to President Bola Tinubu not only found fault with the May 22, 2026 primary election outcome but also argued forcibly that it was a sham.
While noting that they are committed members of APC who have remained steadfast in their support for the president’s leadership, resolute in their loyalty to his administration and in total support of his re-election bid, they however submitted that Governor AbdulRazaq has lost the moral and political authority to determine the future of APC in Kwara State.
That was not all, the aggrieved guber aspirants also touched on issues that according to them require the president’s attention.
‘1.That Your Excellency takes a sober and critical look at the developments in Kwara State, including the circumstances surrounding the announcement of results for primaries that did not hold, and intervene in the interest of the party’s survival.
2. That Your Excellency carefully reviews the records, capacities, loyalty, and statewide acceptability of the aspirants with a view to making a decisive and unifying choice among the governorship aspirants. We are confident that among us is a leader capable of providing fresh direction, restoring internal unity, rebuilding stakeholder confidence, strengthening the APC’s support base, and working closely with Your Excellency as a reliable partner at the subnational level.
Should Your Excellency adopt such a course, we give our solemn assurance that we will rally behind any consensus candidate acceptable to Your Excellency and the party. We further pledge to commit our collective structures, resources, and political capital toward securing victory for all APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
3.
