2027: Complex, Unusual Political Relationships Surface In Kwara Politics As Saraki, Saliu Mustapha, Oloriegbe Engage In Friendly Conversation At Ilorin Airport
Former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, who arrived in Ilorin on Wednesday, left the Kwara State capital for Abuja on Thursday afternoon and before he departed the Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, an interesting scenario was enacted at the place in question and this has left political pundits and residents of the State of Harmony stunned.
Many were left astonished because It featured unusual political relationships .
Members of the G-15, a major internal opposition bloc within Kwara State APC were in Ilorin for an event on Thursday and some of the leaders of the group including Senator Salihu Mustapha and Dr Yahaya Oloriegbe were also leaving the Kwara State capital for Abuja in a charter plane after attending the programme.
Dr Saraki and G-15 leaders bumped into each other at the tarmac and rather than ‘casual greeting’ , it was made somewhat a happy reunion.
Dr Saraki and the G15 members not only exchanged pleasantries but also made a good show of camaraderie.
That of Senator Mustapha , Dr Oloriegbe was however too conspicuous as they engaged in friendly conversation with the former Senate President and it was also clear that there are ongoing political discussions.
While Senator Saliu Mustapha, who was the Ilorin East/Ilorin South ANPP reps candidate in 2007, later joined the Saraki political structure but parted ways with the former governor when he stayed put in APC and refused to leave the party for PDP in 2018, Dr Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, who left the Saraki political structure when he chose to support late Admiral Mohammed Lawal against late Dr Olusola Saraki in 2003, had later ended Saraki’s membership of the senate in 2019..
The current situation in Kwara State political landscape is in semblance with what happened in the state ahead of the 2015 general election.
Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki and President Bola Tinubu, who had since 2002 attended counter-rallies during high-stakes elections in the state, had their first joint in-person rally appearance at the Metropolitan Square, Ilorin in 2014 urging Kwarans to support Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed’s re-election bid and also vote for the then APC presidential candidate, late General Muhammadu Buhari.
The Jagaban of Borgu had at the campaign rally in question noted that many were surprised to see him and the former Senate President together and called what they were doing ‘common sense revolution’ submitting that getting Dr Goodluck Jonathan voted out of power requires all hands on deck.
Birds told Team@orientatualmags.com that Kwarans are eagerly awaiting what the new political friends; Dr Bukola Saraki, Dr Ibrahim Oloriegbe and Senator Saliu Mustapha will call their own.
No one knows if the new relationship will blossom or end soon but political pundits are watching unfolding events keenly
