2027: ‘Dillydallying’ Ends As Senator Saliu Mustapha Finally Quits APC…Reasons Why Kwarans Are Eagerly Awaiting His New Party
Ending weeks of intense political speculation, Senator Saliu Mustapha has finally announced his decision to leave the ruling APC noting that this was sequel to deep introspection and adding that it was not in any way a hasty decision.
Team@orientactualmags.com reports that Senator Saliu Mustapha, who announced his decision to quit APC in a Facebook post on Thursday night, also noted that leaving the ruling party became inevitable after clear ideological differences and unresolved internal crisis that left him with no option than to say ‘To your tents, O Israel!’ and kiss the APC bye.
In a letter sent to chairman of the party in Gambari Ward 1, Ilorin East local government, Senator Saliu Mustapha noted that his resignation from APC is with immediate effect.
‘Following careful considerations of the recent developments in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, I have formally resigned my membership of the party in the state
This is not a decision I have taken lightly. It follows weeks of extensive consultations and engagements with relevant stakeholders, my supporters, constituents across Kwara Central Senatorial District, and well-meaning Kwarans.
As a politician, I have always believed that politics must be about people, principles and purpose. Where the path of a political platform no longer sufficiently aligns with these convictions and the aspirations of the people one represents, the honourable thing to do is to chart a new course.
To the leadership of the APC ably led by H.E. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, I express my deepest gratitude for the relationships and experiences I have been afforded over the years.
To my constituents, supporters, political associates and stakeholders in Kwara State and beyond, I assure you that while my political platform may change, my principles, my purpose and my commitment to the people remain unchanged.
I remain steadfast in my service to the people of Kwara Central, Kwara State and Nigeria at large.
Thank you’ the senator submitted in the Facebook post.
While Senator Saliu Mustapha has not officially announced a new political platform, sources hinted at an imminent defection to the PDP and the party leaders are also said to be planning to honour him with the Kwara Central senate nomination.
Ahead of the 2027 general election, Senator Saliu Mustapha, who currently represents Kwara Central in the senate, had sought gubernatorial nomination and later senate nomination in the APC but eventually got none,
He is a member of the ‘G15’, a prominent political coalition of top APC stakeholders.
If Senator Mustapha eventually chooses PDP as his new political party, this will be the first time he will stand under umbrella since 1999.
Leaving APC must have been a difficult decision for the federal lawmaker given his role in the establishment of the party in 2013..
Senator Saliu Mustapha as Deputy National Chairman of CPC, was one of the signatories to the documents establishing APC hence his decision not to join former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki in leaving APC for PDP in 2018.
Kwarans are eagerly awaiting the senator’s new political party and this is understandable.
Stakeholders and eager supporters are counting down the hours to the official announcement by the federal lawmaker which will make it known if the ‘relationship’ between the G15 and the PDP will blossom and if the party’s Kwara Central senate nomination will be more competitive or not.
The federal lawmaker had at different times gotten recognized as member of ANPP, CPC and APC and the new party he is expected to announce soon will be his fourth party.
He was also the Ilorin South/Ilorin East ANPP reps candidate in the 2007 general election.
