2027 Kwara Guber: KAG Evaluates Lanre Onilu’s Action, Urges Kwarans Not To Fall For ‘Political Scam’
Ahead of the 2027 Kwara State gubernatorial election, a group, the Kwara Awareness Group (KAG) has evaluated Mr Lanre Issa-Onilu’s recent action and cautioned the veteran journalist against sending out the wrong signals to residents of the state especially members of the ruling APC.
Mr Lanre Isa-Onilu, who is the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), has announced his decision to withdraw from the 2027 gubernatorial race while also declaring his support for Hon Bashir Bolarinwa’s candidacy.
KAG in a statement issued in Ilorin on Thursday by its Chairman, Mr. Daniel Afolayan, and Secretary, Mr. Ridwan Olalekan which was made available to Team@orientactualmags.com noted that while it is within Mr Onilu’s rights to withdraw from the 2027 gubernatorial race and declare support for any of the guber aspirants, sending out the wrong signals to the people will however be considered as a great disservice to the state .
While maintaining its neutrality and noting that what is paramount to the group is the ‘best interest of the state’, KAG said it will however be unfair to allow some people to mislead the citizens and trick them into having the impression that an aspirant has emerged as the ‘anointed candidate’ ahead of the APC governorship primary election.
The group said Mr Lanre Isa-Onilu’s action is profoundly damaging and misleading as it somewhat gave the impression that Hon Bolarinwa has been declared as the ‘anointed candidate’.
KAG added that Mr Lanre Isa-Onilu has somewhat tried to trick Kwarans into believing that Hon Bashir Bolarinwa has earned endorsement from the presidency while submitting that the former federal lawmaker could not have in any way earned such an ‘endorsement’ considering his past political records.
‘We will like to warn Mr Lanre Isa-Onilu against taking actions that can mislead Kwarans. If he has found it difficult to resign from his position as Director General of NOA and felt he should chicken out of the race, nothing is wrong about that.
We are only making a clarification and asserting that Hon Bashir Bolarinwa has not been endorsed by anyone and he is not in any way the preferred candidate.
His past political records will not in any way make him a Tinubu’s person than his co-guber aspirants. He left ACN for PDP in 2011 and also left APC for SDP in 2023.
Many among the guber aspirants have never left the AD, AC and APC for other political parties at any point in time, Hon Bolarinwa left AC for the PDP and participated in the 2011 primary election that was held at Baseball Court, Adewole and eventually won by Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed.
Some people stayed put in AC to welcome him back into the fold when he failed to get Kwara State PDP gubernatorial nomination. We urge discerning members of the public especially the residents of Kwara State not to fall for the trick and the political scam.
