Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, an Ilorin-based Islamic cleric, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Aduagba has called the APC Muslim -Muslim presidential ticket ‘a negation of justice’.
He argued that even if the majority had supported any proposition it would not imply that such is sensible or logical once everybody has not be given a sense of belonging.
Aduagba, who said this while giving a short sermon during the programme organized by friends and associates of former Sports minister, Mallam Bolaji Abdulahi to mark the 2022 International Youth Day in Ilorin on Friday, added that the worsening security situation in the country has made it difficult for people to drive luxurious cars at night.
The programme held at Arca Santa Arena, Ilorin was called ‘The Omoluabi Summit’ and it had as its theme; ‘Character as Leadership’.
Abdulahi is the PDP candidate for Kwara Central 2023 Senate election.
While lamenting the rising poverty in the country, Aduagba said some Nigerians had been made to become willing informants to bandits and other criminals because of economic hardships.
He urged young people in the country to shun violence during the upcoming general election and rather put their PVCs to use and ensure emergence of good leaders.
Nigerians should also according to him choose leaders among former leaders that had been tested and had excellent track records.
He also noted that it would be a mistaken assumption for Nigerian politicians to consider the nation’s resources as a ‘national cake’ that can be shared without being made accountable, God, he added, will make them face questions on the day of judgment.
Giving his speech, former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki described good character as a key quality required for a good leader he however noted that a leader that stands in his or her truth should be ready to face challenges and persecution just like he did as president of the eighth senate.
Calling character the most important among the three C’s –courage, character and competence, Saraki , who said the era of using lies and propaganda to deceive people was gone, urged Nigerians to vote wisely in the upcoming general election.
He said having seen the scorecard of the APC –led government and having compared what we had in 2015 and the conditions of extreme poverty that obtain now, Nigerians should vote out the ruling party next year.
Also speaking, former governor Abdulfatah Ahmed , who said people are properly judged through the contents of their character, added that the new electoral law has gotten Nigerians empowered to choose the leaders they want.
He also noted that Nigerians are currently facing the consequences of the decision made in 2019.
