Abia Gov-Elect Hints At Ousting Peter Obi As LP Leader
Signs have emerged that the Labour Party presidential candidate, Chief Peter Obi may not have it smooth sailing asserting himself as ‘national leader’ of the party.
Though, no one among members of the Labour Party currently holds an appointive or an elective position in the country, the party had since risen from obscurity to become the third most popular political party in the country overtaking APGA and NNPP.
Prior to this time, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) had controlled Anambra state since 2006 and also did same in Imo state for about four years, it has however been overtaken by LP.
While the NNPP has 2 senators-elect and 18 reps-elect and APGA, 1 senator-elect and 4 reps-elect , LP has produced more than forty National Assembly members.
Also, while the national assembly members produced by the NNPP and APGA are limited to Kano and Anambra states respectively those of the LP are from different parts of the country
LP had gotten more seats in the National Assembly than the NNPP and APGA but was not however rated above them because it had not won any state until Wednesday
It will be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC , had on Wednesday announced the Labour Party candidate, Alex Otti as winner of the 2023 Abia State governorship election.
Being the only LP governor ,Alex Otti, has hinted at ousting Obi as ‘National Leader’ submitting that he had won election even before the former Anambra state governor joined the party.
He has not expressly recognized Obi as his ‘ political leader’ and Abia being the only LP-controlled state will provide a good reason for Otti to lay claim to such a position and status.
‘In 2015 when I ran under APGA, there was no Peter Obi. And we have it on our record that I won that election. At the time we were joining Labour Party, Peter Obi had not joined. It took about a week before he called me and said that he had purchased the presidential nomination form and he was coming to Labour Party.
We were prepared to fight the way we fought in 2015. The votes we garnered in Abia could have been had but maybe the margin could have been smaller. That is why it’s always good to acknowledge Peter Obi. He came to Abia about four times to campaign for us.
I think he had done well for us. That is why even the first election out of the eight House of Representatives seats we took six and sent some people on permanent retirement.
Peter Obi is a great addition to our campaign, but I can tell you that we won an election before in Abia without him’ Otti submitted while appearing on Channels TV’s ‘Politics Today’ programme on Wednesday- Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
