Congress: Sunday Bisi Elected Osun PDP Chairman In Osogbo As Gov Adeleke Urges ‘Unity Of Effort’ To Strengthen Party

Former Chairman of Osun state PDP, Chief Sunday Bisi has staged a comeback and got elected as chairman of the party in the state, ditto the state Secretary, Prince Bola Ajao.

New leaders were elected to run the affairs of the party in the state on Wednesday. The state congress held at the Osogbo City Stadium, Osogbo, had delegates from the 31 local governments in the state and party bigwigs in attendance.

Though it was an uncontested election, due process was however followed as delegates were made to queue up to vote.

The state congress was supervised by a seven-member committee set up for this purpose by the party’s National Working Committee  and it had Dr  Samuel Omotosho as Chairman and Hon Ayodele Fadaka as Secretary.

The new Osun state PDP exco comprises thirty nine members including Chief Sunday Bisi, Chairman,  Mr. Yakubu Kasali Idowu, Deputy Chairman, Prince Bola Ajao , Secretary, Barrister Ebenezer Bolarinwa , Legal Adviser, Hon Ayodeji Areola, Publicity Secretary  , Prince Gbenga Idowu , Youth Leader and Mrs. Alice Otunla, Woman Leader.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned Senators-elect and reps-elect from the state could not attend the state congress because they were in Abuja for an induction ceremony.

Addressing delegates to the congress and other party members and supporters, Governor Ademola Adeleke emphasized the need for unity of effort to   make the party grow from strength to strength urging all members to join hands together for this purpose.

‘We are electing our new leaders to work with the Imole government, and to support the people’s government.

I call on all PDP members to unite behind the new executives that will be elected today, let’s hold the banner of love high.

Unity is very key, we need all of us to join hands together and move PDP from strength to strength.

To the PDP members, rest assured that your government is working; the dividend of democracy is here and it is here to stay.

To the Osun state people, this PDP government is for the people, of the people and by the people.

To the delegates, the field is open. Let’s do it and show that it is PDP. Let’s show them that in PDP, we know how to do things’ he said.

Earlier, while giving his welcome speech, Dr Akindele Adekunle, who had served as Chairman of the state PDP caretaker committee since last year, had described this as ‘an exceptionally busy period’.

‘Looking back on my days as chairman,   the past 12 months has been an exceptionally busy period. We have had to deal with a rapid succession of important events, situations and very intriguing challenges.

Many of these still unfolded up to the preceding hours of this august exercise today. Indeed, for me, it has been a most eventful period throughout, at times like I said, challenging but on the whole, a most rewarding experience that  I will live to cherish probably forever’ he added.

Akindele also noted that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s leadership style has helped to strengthen the party in the state.

He also lauded PDP members in the state for adopting and promoting  the consensus building approach .

‘What comes to mind, first and foremost, is the strong and active engagement of the executive governor of Osun state, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke in advancing, promotion and protection of sanctity of fairness and democratic principle of inclusiveness, no matter how inconvenient it could be.

In the face of very many crisis tunnels, the governor has turned up brightly with touch of unity and audacious sacrifices. With his leadership, we have crafted courage and demonstrated capacity to act to address these situations in a timely and constructive manner.

The principle of continued engagement bestowed on us by Mr Governor, must be more than just a one short exercise. We need to ensure that the common resolves that we have expressly adopted till this day are followed up with concrete actions, so as to produce meaningful impacts on the ground, and make a difference as a house of champions – the ruling party in Osun state.

Another positive development that I have witnessed is the stronger and more active engagement within the rank and files of the party through the intensification of consultation and consensus building. This is evident in the numbers of cross- interest blocs in various local governments and electoral wards which were amicably resolved prior to today’s exercise.

It is no gainsaying that today’s exercise marks the climax of the outstanding ward congress as well as the local government congress which have been held and concluded in the last couple of days’ he said.

The former Caretaker Chairman also told the new Osun state PDP leaders what they should give their attention.

‘I would like to summarize this in 3 main posers that we seek to address going forward, namely ;

Can we do better in terms of making the party more effective and efficient?

Can we do better in terms of having real impacts on the ground as purveyors of government policies and programmes?

And can we do better in dealing with emergency situations in a timely and constructive manner?

I believe that these issues remain pertinent, and they should remain at the back of our mind especially the team assuming office today as we move towards the agenda of serving the interest of our people’ he said.

Delivering his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Chief Sunday Bisi noted that he has been tasked with reforming the party and investing in ‘our future’ , saying ‘it is also very clearly an instruction to deliver’.

‘Investing in our future demands that we share in short and long term policies of our dear governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke on the need to start building the economy from the ruins of past administration, this, the party, will support with our full chest  on my watch because we appreciate the need to be assured of the future based on skills and talents and education and the application of technology, knowing full well that for Osun state to be relevant in the future, the forces of global competition and technological innovations mean that we can only compete on the basis of skill, ability and meritocracy.

To this end, the domestication of the start-up act and tech innovations to strengthen tech savvy youth demography of the state by the Imole administration is the way to go and we will also deploy instrumentality of the platform of our party to support and see this noble idea of the state government to fruition’ he said.

Chief Sunday, who expressed total commitment to the wellbeing of party members, also promised to  keep up the culture of democratic tenets, fairness and justice.

‘As the sixth elected chairman of the party, taking a cue from the astute and native intelligence of the pioneer chairman, late Pa Olayiwola Ogunrinade, to the charismatic comportment of Alhaji Akinade Akinbade, to the evergreen standing of late Alhaji Rasak Ademola ‘Landero’, to the political sagacity of my brother and friend, Alhaji Abdul-Ganiyu Ayobami Olaoluwa Asejere, to the smartness of Hon Olasoji Adagunodo, I will keep up the culture of democratic tenets, fairness and justice’ the amiable politician submitted.

Osun state PDP bigwigs that attended the state congress include the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, former Defence minister, Erelu Olusola Obada, former PDP National Deputy Publicity Secretary, Prince Diran Odeyemi,  Member-elect, Osun state House of Assembly , Hon Adewale Egbedun, former state Chairman, Alhaji Ganiyu Olaoluwa, former PDP Secretary, South West, Hon Bunmi Jenyo and Hon Abiodun Ojo- Team@orientactualmags.com
