President of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Dr Emeka Orji has disclosed that there has been no meeting convened by the health authorities to address their grievances.
NARD had begun a five-day warning strike on Wednesday (today) which is expected to end on Monday.
The association had on April 29 issued a two-week ultimatum to the government to meet its demands or face an industrial action.
The resident doctors had listed their grievances to include poor remuneration, demanding better welfare, among others.
While appearing on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily programme , the NARD President said they were ready to end the strike but were yet to be invited for any meeting by the government.
‘We are ready to attend any meeting that will help us to resolve this issue because like I said before, the strike is avoidable, and it can still be stopped even though it is a warning strike but we have to see a genuine commitment’ he said.
‘We have not received any communication from any ministry inviting us to a meeting whether today (Wednesday) or any other day’ he added.
Resident doctors at the Osun state University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo would however not participate in the ongoing national strike.
A Government House, Osogbo statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by Mr. Olawale Rasheed noted that this was sequel to the closed- door meeting Governor Ademola Adeleke held with the doctors and had a certain grievance that had according to the statement be left unattended to for 12 years addressed.

‘At the meeting attended by the leadership of the medical union and management of the teaching hospital, Governor Adeleke approved with immediate effect the payment of hazard allowance to clinical and non- clinical workers at the teaching hospital.
The governor also approved payment of a percentage of residency training allowance to resident doctors at the hospital on an annual basis.
Reacting to the presentation by the President of the medical union, Dr John Ojo, Governor Adeleke further directed that all other operational issues raised by the union should be looked into with immediate effect.
He however urged the medical workers to reciprocate the kind gesture of the state government by re-dedicating themselves to service delivery.
Elated resident doctors at the meeting jubilated and appreciated the governor for fulfilling the 12- year dream of the resident doctors’ the statement noted-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
